UNKLE "War Stories (The Psychopab Def Mix)" [zshare stream/download MP3 link]

Recommended for those who were into Stone Roses, Death in Vegas, latter-day Chemical Bros. and more recently Radiohead and Kasabian. As you can see, I pretty much have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to this kind of music really but I do like this track!

More new music: Ghislain Poirier - "Blazin feat. Face-T (Starkey Remix)"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We're off the hip hop track a little today as you can see. I mean, if Cam'ron's "Glitter" is what's getting the kids excited right now, clearly I'm not missing much in that world. Moving on...

I don't even know what this remix by Starkey (above) is classified as: grime, broken beat or what? I f-cks with it though:

FEMA at it again??!!!

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann & WaPo's EJ Dionne ripping FEMA a new one....

They mangled Katrina. So how'd FEMA do on the California wildfire crisis? Hard to tell since there were no real reporters at their 'news conference.' FEMA: faking the funk yet again? How does this happen barely two years after the last debacle??

Still winning those hearts and minds in Afghanistan...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Karzai and Bush in better days.

From the NY Daily News:

"Afghan Premier Hamid Karzai wants the U.S. to dramatically cut back on bombing campaigns that have accidentally killed hundreds of civilians.

"The Afghan people understand that mistakes are made," Karzai told CBS News' "60 Minutes," "but five years on, six years on ... they cannot comprehend as to why there is still a need for air power."

Although Karzai has criticized the U.S. and its allies for individual raids that killed civilians, the interview is the first time he has demanded wholesale changes.

"In clear words and I want to repeat that [there are] alternatives to the use of air force," he told Scott Pelley in an interview airing Sunday evening.

Six years after the fall of the Taliban, the U.S. has unleashed bombing raids across wide swaths of Afghanistan in hopes of smashing the Islamic rebels.

They have inadvertently killed almost as many civilians as insurgents. [emphasis added]"

US to order diplomats to serve in Iraq

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Doesn't this pretty much say it all about how Iraq is going?

"In the largest call-up of U.S. diplomats since the Vietnam War, the State Department is planning to order some of its personnel to serve at the American Embassy in Iraq because of a lack of volunteers.

Those designated "prime candidates" from 200 to 300 diplomats will be notified Monday that they have been selected for one-year postings to fill the 40 to 50 vacancies expected next year.

A spokesman for the union that represents U.S. diplomats told The Associated Press on Saturday that "assigning unarmed civilians into a combat zone should be done on a voluntary basis."

They will have 10 days to accept or reject the position. If not enough say yes, some will be ordered to go to Iraq and face dismissal if they refuse, said Harry Thomas, director general of the Foreign Service."

The American Gangster Meets Mr.Untouchable

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Mark Jacobson moderates a historic (of sorts, I guess) conversation between the real-life Frank Lucas, portrayed by Denzel in the upcoming American Gangster movie, and legendary uptown drug lord-turned-snitch Nicky Barnes (aka Mr. Untouchable) for New York magazine. Check it out here. (spotted via Real Talk)

American Gangster-related: as you know, unless you live under a rock, the Jay-Z album has leaked and you know what? It's f-cking GREAT! If it's not Reasonable Doubt good like he was promising , it's at least on par with The Black Album and KILLIN' Kingdom Come... easily. Talk about misleading: "Blue Magic" and "Roc Boys" might be the two worst cuts on the album! Others' thoughts though?

War on Terror/Freedom in Iraq & the Middle East update

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Peace in Pakistan!

Remember how Bush used to say that a 'free Iraq' (that is, one liberated from the Saddam Hussein regime and democratically electing governments) would lead to a spread of freedom and democracy throughout the Middle East? So four years later, how's that strategy going?

Peace in the Middle East:

In Iraq: "Iraqi officials expressed outrage early Sunday at what they say are civilian deaths in the wake of a massive military operation in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood.

The U.S. military said its ground forces are "unaware" of civilian deaths in the early morning raid that it said left 49 "criminals" dead." [from "U.S. forces battle militants in Sadr City" - CNN]

Iraq/Turkey-related: 12 Turkish Soldiers Killed in Kurdish Rebel Attack. [NYT]

And in Pakistan: "Two bombs exploded Thursday just seconds apart and feet from a truck carrying the returning opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, narrowly missing her but killing scores of people and bloodying her triumphal homecoming after eight years in exile.

According to reports on local news stations late Friday morning, 134 people had been killed and about 400 wounded." [NYT]

Homeland Security:

TSA report: most fake bombs missed by screeners. [USA Today]

J.F.K. Workers Moved Drugs, Authorities Say. Not that I believe it, but could dirty bombs be next? [NYT]

So much for peace in the Middle East! And while he should be worried about more "mundane" holes in basic security like the above, Bush continues on with his lunatic "war on terror" and his demented belief in visions of World War III starting if Iran goes nuclear. C'mon, is he friggin' serious?! [NYT]

The album is great - wasn't even mad that I copped for cheap then got a free copy in the mail from Giant Step the very next day. But was mad when I found out my 2 free download tracks that are being offered exclusively with purchase of CD's from the Best Buy chain won't play on the itunes on my Apple laptop and thus, by default my ipod. F-ck you, Best Buy - you are f-cking IDIOTS! And don't think them tracks aren't gonna show up as zshare links somewhere anyway and I'm not gonna get them onto my ipod somehow. F-ckin' morons....

The Pack x Starski: Live in San Francisco this weekend

I know it looks like I've been riding The Pack's jock heavy (n/h) but... well I have, but I just learned Lil B from the group has been known to check this page out so I'm not gonna miss a chance to plug their sh-t and hear about it from him if I don't, so this Saturday my Bay area folks better check this out:

New podcast: "The Breakadawn Show - Vol. 3" feat. Talib Shabazz & DJ Spearhead X

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My longtime dude (n/h) Spearhead X (A&R for Dallas Austin and producer for Y'All So Stupid and De La Soul) has a new podcast called "The Breakadawn Show." Show is hot (although the first segment seems to repeat twice for some reason) - you can check out Episode 3 right here mixing the latest in down south bangers and quality undeground hip hop (kind of like this site!) including a SICK Lupe Fiasco cut I'd never heard before but apparently is kind of old (?) called "Lupe the Killer."
