R.I.P Malcolm McLaren: 1946 - 2010

Malcolm McLaren was one of the true mavericks and visionaries in a music industry painfully bereft of them, believe me! He is rightly considered a pioneer of both punk rock, for his involvement with the New York Dolls and, more significantly, the Sex Pistols and also hip hop. Along with the video above for the seminal "Buffalo Gals" by McLaren and the 80's-era NYC radio/DJ crew, the World's Famous Supreme Team, here's an example of the latter:

R.I.P. Malcolm, the great rock n roll swindle is sadly finally over....

New music: Foxy Brown - "Star Cry"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So I'm online right now and noticed an email with this track just got sent to me:

Foxy Brown "Star Cry" [zshare stream/download mp3 link]

Truthfully, the demise of Fox Boogie's career is one of the saddest things I've seen in hip hop. There was a time when she was no joke, hot-fiya but no more based on the tracks, including this one (the heartfelt lyrics notwithstanding), that have leaked from her forthcoming album Brooklyn's Don Diva in stores 5.13.08.

New Foxy Brown music!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Dunno about these tracks from the Brooklyn Don Diva album due 11.20.07 personally, especially that Diddy-sounding "Lights Go Out" joint, but you tell me:

"Lights Go Out" [YSI mp3 link]

"We're on Fire"
feat. Mavado [YSI mp3 link]

To be honest, Fox's old rival Lil Kim is sounding a lot hotter right about now but maybe that's just me?

Life After Death - The Movie (trailer)

I might be late on this but I just copped this DVD, Life After Death - The Movie from my PO Box this past weekend. I have issues with some claims in this documentary (produced by Lil' Kim and Junior M.A.F.I.A. manager D-Roc and narrated by The Wire's Jamie Hector) such as '99 was the 'Golden Age' of hip hop but Biggie and Lil' Kim Stans should probably check this anyway for the 'behind-the-scenes,' 'like you were there' point of view to the story of how Big Poppa's crew fared in the 10 years following his untimely demise.

Life After Death - The Movie is probably worth it just to see footage of Karrine 'Superhead' Steffans showing her true colors and literally getting tossed in a garbage can by (I think) Lil' Cease and while, the production values are just slightly above 'Hood DVD' quality, Roc has some exclusives like footage from the surveillance tapes of the infamous Hot 97 shoot out between Kim's camp and C.N.N. who were riding with Foxy Brown at the time. He also does a good editing job showing the building tension between these two female rappers as they beefed, first on wax and then unfortunately beyond that, and also makes a pretty devastating case for why Cease and fellow M.A.F.I.A. member Banger were disloyal to him and Kim during the trial that resulted from the shooting by time he wraps up his tale.
