New music: Keys N Krates – Live Re-Mixing 101

KEYS N KRATES - Re-Mixing 101 by Keys N Krates

I wish this trailer was more music and less 'tastemaker' DJ & media cosigns but I get it: who wouldn't want to show blog idols like Nick, DJ Eleven and Terry Urban talking about how fly they sh-t was? Between this and Dame Dash's BlakRoc project, I think we're seeing the future of music. But maybe that's just me....

Still not clear on what Keys N Krates is after watching the trailer and playing the mix above though? Check this plug:

"Urb Magazine Presents Keys N Krates // Live Re-Mixing 101

Live Re-Mixing 101 is the the history of hip-hop and dance music getting ripped apart and rebuilt in real time, resulting in one of the most exciting, connective and participatory experiences in live music today.

Comprised of an award-winning DJ, Jr Flo, Matisse on keys and Adam Tune on drums, Keys N Krates have a communal arrangement that allows a manipulative diversity unprecedented in DJ culture.

Showcasing KNK's party-rock performances
, Live Re-Mixing 101 includes their signature deconstructed compositions of: Mos Def's "Ms. Fat Booty," Tribe Called Quest favorites, The Fugees' "Fu-Gee-La," Talib Kweli's "Get By," Dr. Dre's "Next Episode," Simian Mobile Disco's "We Are Your Friends" and more."

Sheen Bros - Scumbag Funk Vol. 2 Download & Release Party

Sheen Bros.,Cosmo Baker,4th Pyramid,mixtape

WTF? Let Cosmo Baker explain:

"So basically it started out as a joke between me and my homeboy 4th Pyramid. Hanging out in downtown Manhattan one evening, we decided to come up with a funk / rap group, and Sheen Brothers was born. Like I said, it was all kind of in fun, but then after a couple shows and some recording things actually got serious. So with dedication and focus, Sheen Bros is a full on go.

Now this here it is, the one and only Sheen Bros
Scumbag Funk Volume 2 mixed by yours truly. It's 40+ minutes of nothing but that afrosheen. This is just the precursor, as we have an EP of original material setting to drop in spring of 2010 as well as a full length LP later on in the year, featuring an insane lineup of some legendary guests.

Check the download link for Volume 2 below, and you can click HERE for a link to Volume 1, mixed by 4th Pyramid. Special shouts to the following people for helping make Volume 2: 4th Pyramid, Tamir, Z. Brown, Mark Lowyns, Raj Mahal, Bird Peterson, Justin Torres, Dante Ross, DJ Nu-Mark, 7l & DJ Beyonder, Stretch Armstrong & Eli Escobar.

Throwback video: Bad Meaning Good UK Hip Hop Documentary (Full Version)

So I'm antiquarian, huh? OK, if that's the case, I'ma go all the way in with it. Check this amazing 1987 documentary on the UK hip hop scene that I discovered while checking out some old video clips of the late, great UK hip hop pioneer, Derek B. It features Tim Westwood, Trevor Nelson, London Posse, Cookie Crew and the Wee Papa Girl Rappers amongst others.

New music: Dato - "This Time"

Photobucket

Some new wavey (the bassline sounds almost note-for-note like "It's My Life" by Talk Talk to my ears), electronic sh!t from Denmark. Recommended if you dig, Kanye's last album, Empire of the Sun (dudes who worked with Hov on the opening track from BP3) or Mr. Hudson:

Video: Alicia Keys - “Empire State Of Mind II” Live

[via RapRadar]

BTW: I've been f-cking SLEEPING on that “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” track. Sometimes I tune out when I see a million blogs all post the same thing even if its by a major artist like Alicia, but I just heard this song on the Hot 97 Countdown - MONSTROUS! Watch the video for it HERE.

Also, regular readers may have noticed the posting has slowed down drastically in the past few days. I'm in job hunting mode right now and, as simple as the content on this site may look to compile, it does actually take more time than I can afford to spare right now to post 10-15x/day so bear with me. I'll try to pick out the best of the best to share still when I can. I just wanna also say: I can't believe how lame the response was to the Rakim ticket giveaway. If readers care that little for the God MC, hip hop may indeed be dead.....

Rakim on the Conspiracy Worldwide Radio Friday Night Live Podcast

Rakim

Listen back to the Nov. 6 edition of THE FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE SHOW iTunes PODCAST featuring live guests, Rakim, RA The Rugged Man, Scorzayzee, Harry Shearer (The Simpsons and Spinal Tap), Mykil Miers and more!

"Rakim joins us for one of his most deep and lengthy interviews of his entire career. This may just be the most intrusive and probing interview that you will ever hear with the man who changed what it meant to be an emcee and helped create the art of rhyming from scratch. As well as talking about the importance of the new Rakim album, world premiered here on the show a few weeks ago, he also takes time to talk Aftermath, The Detox, Eric B, Jay-Z as well as offering an open plea to Nas to contact him in order to discuss the recent 'Rakim dedication' record that Nas penned. This is almost 60 minutes with the true pioneer of rhyme. Only a "rap" music fan would miss this."
