I've only heard a handful of things from this album (assuming this eponymous track by Mos Def is officially part of this project too??) but what I have heard is sounding incredible! Say what you want about Damon Dash, who's overseeing this project via his new DD172 creative space, (and I have in the past) but this could be contender for hip hop album of the year already. Yeah, I said it! Long-time readers know I've never been much of a fan of Jean Grae either but she sounds amazing here too. 'Real' hip hop is back!!!

Video: Joell Ortiz & Cory Gunz - the Recording of Line Em Up
I don't normally post these kind of in-the-studio clips but this one is pretty cool. Joell and Gunz are working with a Canadian producer named Frank Dukes (who.he??) who's got a lot of fiya based on the beats they pass on before locking in on a real heater that they write too. I've been kind of semi on Gunz despite all the blog hype he's gotten over the past few year (still no official single or album over all this time?? C'mon son!), but he definitely made me a believer with this clip, at least in terms of his mic skills - he's MURDERING that beat. Agree?

"More than 20 years after Boogie Down Productions and MC Shan & Marley Marl traded dis records in what was the first higly publicized rap beef of many to come, KRS and Marley will come together on stage at The Fillmore. No longer beefin about the origin of Hip Hop from their now infamous “The Bridge “ and “The Bridge is Over” musical debate, Krs-One and Marley Marl are set to make history with their upcoming release Hip Hop Lives.
In support of their brand new release, this somewhat surprising MC/DJ duo are set to blaze a path of Hip Hop unity in response to current attacks on lyrical content from the media and claims that the genre is dead from their peers. Out to prove that Hip Hop is indeed alive and well, Krs-One and Marley Marl are embarking on a three city tour, New York, D.C. and Philadelphia to spread the word. It ain’t so much about where the music came from, its about where its going."
