It's the return of good friend, D-Nice's 'True Hip-Hop Stories' after a far-too-long hiatus:
"In this episode of True Hip-Hop Stories, Pharoahe Monch discussed the making of the Rawkus classic recording "Oh No" featuring Mos Def and Nate Dogg."

Ticket Giveaway for the Organized Konfusion/Poor Righteous Teachers NYC show at BB King's (week 1)

This is their first NYC show in over a decade (according to the above flyer, at least!).
Ok, so thanks to the good people at B.B. Kings / Highline Ballroom, we are gonna give away a pair of tickets during each of the next three weeks leading up to the Organized Konfusion/Poor Righteous Teachers show at the end of this month. We will be giving away some tickets for some other upcoming shows too including Mos Def, Murs, Jedi Mind Tricks etc. so stay tuned and keep checking back for more info.
For this week's giveaway though, a winner will be selected from entrants correctly answering the following question: what was their original name before Monch and Po became known as Organized Konfusion? Correct answers will be accepted by email subject line: 'Organized Konfusion/Poor Righteous Teachers Ticket Contest'" until 11:59:59PM EST on Monday September 7. Winners will be contacted by email.
Note: you must be able to make your own way to the show. NO transportation can or will be provided.
Here's some more fine print for prospective winners:
Upon arrival at the club, tables may be available; ask the host at the door if you would like to be seated. Please bear in mind that we cannot seat incomplete parties. Seating is not guaranteed. Please note that we enforce a ten dollar food or drink minimum for any seated guests. We always offer standing room space at our bar, without cover. We don’t reserve tables; please let me know if this affects your ability to attend the show.
Shows start promptly; BBKing's recommend arriving no less than thirty minutes prior to scheduled start time. Please bear in mind that if there is an opener on the bill, the opener will begin at the scheduled start time, not the lead act.
I think this is pretty much gonna be it for me until after the Long weekend. I got people coming into town and I wanna enjoy the end of this, frankly lousy summer. Have a good one, y'all and if, you're in the NYC area, ENTER THE CONTEST!!!

Video: Pharoahe Monch - "Welcome To The Terrordome"
No! The visual content and the song itself couldn't be more timely.
I remember when the orginal version dropped. It was the lead single from the follow-up album, Fear of a Black Planet, to the neutron bomb that was Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation of Millions... and the "Fight the Power" single which was the theme song to Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing. After those two landmarks, the group and Chuck D had the attention of the entire hip hop nation and the world - the only group bigger or (possibly) more important than them was U2. People would have literally gone to war for Chuck if he had decreed it, that's how big and influential PE were at the time. Anyway, relive a time when it felt like hip hop could change not only the way you thought or looked at the world but that world itself:

Pharoahe Monch: Live in NYC TONIGHT!

Even though his cheap-ass promo company wanted me to run a ticket giveaway on the site but wouldn't give me a pair for myself (I'd buy 'em but am dead broke), I'm still gonna show love for Pharoahe Monch's show tonight at the Highline. Looks like it'll be a good one with Monch performing with a live band and Black Milk, Polyrhythm Addicts and The Cool Kids opening up. He looks nuts in that tour poster though.... Amy Winehouse feat. Pharoahe Monch & Jay-Z "ReHab (Urban Legendz Escobar RMX)"

Amy Winehouse live at the Highline Ballroom in NYC (image courtesy aphrodite-in-nyc)
More Pharoahe Monch along with Jay-Z doing his best impersonation of Rick Ross' flow yet again on a brand new remix of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" by (?) or at least sent to me by DJ Tone Capone:
- Amy Winehouse feat. Pharoahe Monch & Jay-Z
BTW: Thanks to my dude Shawn at Universal Music, I caught Amy live last week with the Dap Kings at the new Highline Ballroom venue. It was definitely a solid show and she sounded good although she never really "took it to church" the way Keke Wyatt and Teedra Moses did at a really good TVT Records soul music showcase I was at a couple days later. And I swear to God, homegirl was so drunk and slurrring her words in between songs that I could not understand a friggin' word she said and I'm actually from England! I also wish she'd done "In My Bed" and maybe had Ghostface there to do "You Know I'm No Good" but I figure if he's even done it one of the now many times she's played NYC, that's probably it. Check out some live video clips here.
