Who are the Jena "6"?
Read the story and watch the video here that explains it all and then shake your head at how crazy this country really is.
Of course, even if you only knew the story of Genarlow Wilson and nothing else about the US's history of race relations, you'd already know that things are kind of twisted around these parts in that department.
Meanwhile, I gotta suffer through the indignity of watching Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Sally Kirkland dress up in 'Blackface' in the name of entertainment but you stupid-ass rappers still hang out with her like everything's sweet. Spike Lee and Nas were right!
Thanks Boing, Boing for the heads-up on the Jena "6" story.

Life After Death - The Movie (trailer)
I might be late on this but I just copped this DVD, Life After Death - The Movie from my PO Box this past weekend. I have issues with some claims in this documentary (produced by Lil' Kim and Junior M.A.F.I.A. manager D-Roc and narrated by The Wire's Jamie Hector) such as '99 was the 'Golden Age' of hip hop but Biggie and Lil' Kim Stans should probably check this anyway for the 'behind-the-scenes,' 'like you were there' point of view to the story of how Big Poppa's crew fared in the 10 years following his untimely demise.
Life After Death - The Movie is probably worth it just to see footage of Karrine 'Superhead' Steffans showing her true colors and literally getting tossed in a garbage can by (I think) Lil' Cease and while, the production values are just slightly above 'Hood DVD' quality, Roc has some exclusives like footage from the surveillance tapes of the infamous Hot 97 shoot out between Kim's camp and C.N.N. who were riding with Foxy Brown at the time. He also does a good editing job showing the building tension between these two female rappers as they beefed, first on wax and then unfortunately beyond that, and also makes a pretty devastating case for why Cease and fellow M.A.F.I.A. member Banger were disloyal to him and Kim during the trial that resulted from the shooting by time he wraps up his tale.

50 cent: swagger jacker?
Did 50 bite from Lil Flip with his new "I Get Money" video? As I said at Rizoh's, 50 didn't exactly invent rapping about money. "It's run its course - now we're going to move on...."
That's Bush on the CIA leak scandal. Watch above and read more:
"Despite a long history of denouncing leaks, Bush declined to express any disappointment in the people who worked for him and who were involved in disclosing the name of a CIA operative. Asked about that during a wide-ranging news conference, the president gave a dodgy answer.
"It's been a tough issue for a lot of people in the White House," he said.
He didn't even acknowledge the undisputed fact that someone working for him was the source, saying only that "perhaps somebody in the administration did disclose the name of that person."
In the beginning stages of the case, Bush said, "I want to know the truth," and pledged to fire anyone found to have leaked. As the investigation wore on, he expressed more weariness than outrage, saying only that someone who "committed a crime" would be fired and calling the case "background noise" he had to ignore.
As it turned out, several administration officials revealed Plame's identity. White House political adviser Karl Rove and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage were the primary sources for a 2003 newspaper column outing Plame. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer also admitted telling reporters about her. Libby was the only one charged in the matter and not for leaking."

Rudy Giuliani: America's Mayor?
Not according to the International Association of Fire Fighters and the above video they just released yesterday. I don't really care if homeboy, who amazingly is the lead candidate, ends up becoming Republican nominee for the 2008 presidential campaign but, like with Bush's rep for being so-called 'strong on terror,' it's always irked me that Giuliani has developed a rep for being so great during 9/11. I mean what exactly did he do on 9/11 that was so amazing or outside the scope of what he was supposed to be doing as mayor?? If it hadn't been for 9/11 he would have left office with a rep for having been a divisive, bullying and authoritarian mayor. Watch the video and decide for yourself if they have a point though.

Beyond the pale, super-flagrant...
Yet again, thanks again Bart.
When it comes to the Bush administration, take your pick of the most appropriate description:
"President Bush directed former aides to defy congressional subpoenas on Monday, claiming executive privilege and prodding lawmakers closer to their first contempt citations against administration officials since Ronald Reagan was president.
It was the second time in as many weeks that Bush had cited executive privilege in resisting Congress' investigation into the firings of U.S. attorneys."

Straight outta Lafayette, LA and destined to be be monstorous by Labor Day? The 'Cupid Shuffle' is basically a mix of the 'Walk it Out' and the Cha Cha or 'Electric Slide' and apparently even has thugs in the midwest line-dancing in the clubs. The fact that this looks about 10x more difficult to do than the 'Electric Slide' for anyone over the age of 20 might be the only roadblock to world dominance but I still say don't fight the movement....
