Strange Fruit at Grambling??!!

I'm not condoning any of it but it's one thing to try and intimidate a black police chief in LI with a noose but another for an HBCU school to stage a mock lynching with a kindergarten-age child (!) as part of a school lesson. And they were both happening while more nooses turned up in a town near Jena. Yet we're still worried about rap lyrics? WTF is going on in this country??

Jena 6: the latest developments
First, get up to speed if you need a late pass:
So September 20 was a 'National Day of Action' on the Jena 6 case. Besides this much-needed grassroots call to action, this case is also finally starting to garner some mainstream attention (even as, at the same time, the MSM stays fixated on other black men), but I'ma show love to some of my fellow 'hip hop bloggers' (and others) who've been on this story:
Nah Right: Bun B and Mos Def head to Jena.
EURweb: Jena 6 rally draws thousands.
The Rap Up: good collection of links by Rizoh in his 'Judgement in Jena' post.
Poplicks: Louisiana is bringing back the noose.
Crunk & Disorderly: Jena 6 - no laughing matter.
Bonus audio:
NYOIL (?) - "Free the Jena 6" (YSI mp3 link) - enjoy and spread around, the world needs to hear more hip hop like this!

Who are the Jena "6"?

Read the story and watch the video here that explains it all and then shake your head at how crazy this country really is.
Of course, even if you only knew the story of Genarlow Wilson and nothing else about the US's history of race relations, you'd already know that things are kind of twisted around these parts in that department.
Meanwhile, I gotta suffer through the indignity of watching Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Sally Kirkland dress up in 'Blackface' in the name of entertainment but you stupid-ass rappers still hang out with her like everything's sweet. Spike Lee and Nas were right!
Thanks Boing, Boing for the heads-up on the Jena "6" story.
