Hollywood Fresh: Introducing New Toronto Artist Keysha
I heard this one in the mix with Starting From Scratch on Flow 93.5 tonight - just in time for T.dot Thursdays at The Kitchen. The rhymes are just adequate to be completely honest, but that beat and hook are so monstrous they more make up for that - pure hip hop!

New music: Chelley feat. MIMS - "Took The Night (Remix)"

I featured the orginal version of this song, which I LOVED after hearing Enuff bang it, a while ago. Amazingly enough, the addition of MIMS on a remix has not ruined its appeal for me although this mix is a tad late, no?

Zune presents 'Live at the BBQ' - NYC 8.4.07

'ZUNE - LIVE AT THE BBQ' looks like it could be a good one. About the event from the Zune site:
"We created “Zune - Live at the BBQ”, to give back to our cultural core consumer. For us, it’s about connecting with that core and giving them the opportunity to participate in the Zune mantra which is to support Art, Music and Film in the digital space. This Show is a reward to those who have come to support the digital platform. It’s also a thank you to those individuals in the city who have come to support the local and national Art, Music and Film community. We’ll do that by bringing music back to the community parks. It’s a nod to A time when this music was about community; community support and community interaction. We want to recreate that energy with the ultimate park jam experience and we want you to be there.
Featuring: Brand Nubian, Cham, Large Professor, Clipse, MIMS, Joell Ortiz and many more special guests."

Bashing Hip Hop Post-Imus: the other side...

Cos its starting to get a little crazy out there....
Kelefa Sanneh:
"[T]he anti-hip-hop fervor of the last few weeks has been extraordinary, if not quite unprecedented. Somehow Don Imus’s ill-considered characterization of the Rutgers women’s basketball team — “some nappy-headed hos” — led not only to his firing but also to a discussion of the crude language some rappers use.(click here for more from The New York Times)
Unlike previous hip-hop controversies [though], this one doesn’t have a villain, or even a villainous song.* The current state of hip-hop seems almost irrelevant to the current discussion."
Jim Farber:
"The way the protectors of the public good currently carry on about their favorite bogeyman - hip hop - you'd think popular music just reached some heady new peak of depravity in which the airwaves are awash in a non-stop bitch-ho spew.(click here for more from The Daily News)
Pardon me if all this strikes the music fan as more than a tad behind the curve. As someone who actually listens to all forms of popular music - as opposed to those who spend their hours just attacking it - I have to deliver some disappointing news:
Not only are we not submerged in some new Sodom, we're actually suffering through the most squeaky-clean phase in popular music since Pat Boone came in to shoo away all the sex and cool from the likes of Little Richard in the '50s."
Davey D: "Cheney, Rowe, Cohen, The Police - They Don’t Believe in Snitching so Why Should Hip Hop?" (click here for more)
* Other than, of all the rappers out there, MIMS and (not even a rapper) R. Kelly of course!

New music from the forthcoming MIMS' album Music Is My Savior (IN STORES MARCH 27, 2007). A worthy follow-up to his surprise (to me at least) #1 pop smash "This is Why I'm Hot"?
