And if you must, you can watch the totally (tits and) ass, Kanye West-directed video for "Best I Ever Had" here.

Wale - "Pretty Girls"
I know this video of a live version of "Pretty Girls" is 5 months old but I get the sense this studio version dropped fairly recently as I saw it in the imeeem player on OnSmash a couple days ago:
Wale - "Pretty Girls" [zshare stream/download via Google Search]
Good track, DC all day with those Go-Go drums and the sample from "Girls" by the Moments and Whatnauts. I also like the line "My Prada say Prada and their Prada say Fila" - LOL!
Labels: Crate Diggin', The Whatnauts. The Moments, Wale

Throwback Music: De La Soul - AOI: Bionix Album Sampler (Hosted by DJ's Kay Slay & Maseo)

I know this is wild old but I just came across it while still unpacking (which is gonna take a minute, believe me!) and decided to post it: 1. because its an interesting artifact (I mean De La with Kay Slay?!?! WTF?!?! LOL... ) and 2. it shines the spotlight on an album that got heavily slept on, even by some committed De La fans.
For all you heads that cite Kanye's work as being progressive, mature and spiritual for hip hop who haven't checked this album out, I urge you do do so. De La Soul is a group that has NEVER fallen off from a creative point of view IMHO. Pos and Dave will eat any of the new MC's you new jacks swear by, Wale, Cudi, Drake, Phonte, whomever, right now in 2009! Try to argue with me that I'm wrong on this. Anyway, check this out and tell me what you think. Shout also to my dude, Kvn who did the great artwork on this project.

Video: Michael Jackson’s Memorial Service (Live Stream)
Video: The Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" Live on Soul Train
"I Want You Back" is the greatest pop single of all time. There's a pretty seminal performance by the Jackson 5 doing it on The Ed Sullivan Show too but I'm going with the Soul Train version above.

I used to LOVE this show when I was a kid (yes, I'm that old!). This was before there were really (m)any cartoon shows with Black kids as the main characters. Trust me, Fat Albert was not making it to England back then....

New Music: Keke Palmer - "Super Jerkin"
The more foward thinking of you out there are probably already well up on the West Coast-originated club music/dance trend of Jerkin'. If not, check the New Boyz track I posted recently for reference purposes. Well unbelievably, girl-next-door singer/actress of Akeelah and the Bee and The Longshots fame, Keke Palmer is jumping on the bandwagon with the actually-not-bad track, "Super Jerkin". Throwback music: One-On Volume 1 sampler (2003)

This promo CD sampler, featuring hip hop, breakbeats, and rare groove funk & soul, was given away with the premier issue of the short-lived (?) music magazine Grand Slam which was another in the tradition of excellent hip hop-based UK magazines like Big Daddy and Fat Lace which made their American counterparts, The Source and XXL look corny! The sampler features Large Professor, Rob Swift, Mr. Magic, Edan and Public Enemy. Click here for the full track listing.

New music: Proton - “F-¢k the E¢onomy”

I've f-cked with this kid in the past. He's part of a new wave of progressive hip hop artists in the A like Holly Weird, Jaspects and Travis Porter. Check his excellent collab with Donnis, "All Star" that samples the track "Strange Town" by one of my favorite groups of all time, The Jam. This new track is a bit more traditional sounding (relatively speaking) and is the first leak from his forthcoming SMKA: The 808 Experiment: Vol 2 album dropping in December. Wow! Talk about long lead, huh? Dude is nice with the verbals though, check it:
