I wasn't against him coming to speak in the US or at Columbia but it's funny how his views on homosexuality fall pretty much in line with those of the majority in hip hop. More via amNY and Newsday.

Bush explaining why he says, "F-ck them kids...."
From an AP article titled "Bush: Kids' Health Care Will Get Vetoed" written by Jennifer Loven:
"President Bush again called Democrats "irresponsible" on Saturday for pushing an expansion he opposes to a children's health insurance program.
At issue is the Children's Health Insurance Program, a state-federal program that subsidizes health coverage for low-income people, mostly children, in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private coverage. It expires Sept. 30.
The idea is overwhelmingly supported by Congress' majority Democrats, who scheduled it for a vote Tuesday in the House. It has substantial Republican support as well [emphasis added].
But Bush has promised a veto, saying the measure is too costly, unacceptably raises taxes, extends government-covered insurance to children in families who can afford private coverage, and smacks of a move toward completely federalized health care. He has asked Congress to pass a simple extension of the current program while debate continues, saying it's children who will suffer if they do not."

Disgusting but what do you expect from the people who also thought regulating tobacco could be harmful?!!
The hottest record in the Carolinas right now according to my peoples. Check it:
Lil Ru - "Don't I Look Good" (YSI mp3 link of 3:27 long snippet) - if the music of Soulja Boy, Shop Boyz & Hurricane Chris gets on your nerves, move along: there's nothing for you to see here....
Cover story from Macleans magazine, the Canadian equivalent of Time magazine:
"Its strategies shattered, a desperate Washington is reaching out to the late dictator Saddam Hussein's henchmen."

To begin with, a little background info on Blackwater, the 'Shadow Army' of America from VideoNation, the Nation magazine's YouTube channel:
And also via YouTube: Blackwater, America's Private Army.
But getting to current events now: Iraq Orders Blackwater USA Contractors Out.
And from CNN.com:
"Federal prosecutors are investigating allegations that employees of Blackwater -- the security firm accused of killing up to 20 Iraqi civilians -- illegally smuggled weapons into Iraq, according to U.S. government sources.
Security operations by North Carolina-based Blackwater USA, which is hired by the U.S. State Department to guard U.S. staff in Iraq, were suspended this week amid concerns by Iraqi and U.S. government officials over the shootings in Baghdad last weekend."
Salon.com: "From Blackwater to CACI, mercenary companies in Iraq have a warm and cozy relationship with the Republican politicians who are employing them." Click here for the full article.
And also from CNN.com: " Wounded Iraqis: 'No one did anything' to provoke Blackwater."
So September 20 was a 'National Day of Action' on the Jena 6 case. Besides this much-needed grassroots call to action, this case is also finally starting to garner some mainstream attention (even as, at the same time, the MSM stays fixated on other black men), but I'ma show love to some of my fellow 'hip hop bloggers' (and others) who've been on this story:
Nah Right: Bun B and Mos Def head to Jena.
EURweb: Jena 6 rally draws thousands.

Poplicks: Louisiana is bringing back the noose.
Crunk & Disorderly: Jena 6 - no laughing matter.

Get the mixtape from the cats responsible (with a HUGE assist from Lil Wayne of course) for the hottest record in the A (and maybe the entire South?) right now here. (d/l link via RealTalkNY)
UPDATE: this mixtape is incredible, stop f-cking around and jerking off over the new Hov and D/L it already!!!
And there's more where that came from.

From an AP article titled, "Bush Calls for Expansion of Spy Law":
"President Bush said Wednesday that a law hastily passed in August to temporarily give the government more power to eavesdrop without warrants on foreign terror suspects must be made permanent and expanded.
If this doesn't happen, Bush said, "Our national security professionals will lose critical tools they need to protect our country.""
Whatever. Click here for more of the f-ckery....
Sorry to those coming here for the music but who really cares right now? Props to Kanye though and that so-called "Billion Dollar" remix sucks! (mp3 courtesy Spine, Right click and Save As)

More evidence that the US presence is helping steer Iraq in the 'right direction':
"A high-profile Sunni Arab sheik who collaborated with the American military in the fight against jihadist militants in western Iraq was killed in a bomb attack on Thursday near his desert compound. The attack appeared to be a precisely planned assassination meant to undermine one of the Bush administration’s trumpeted achievements in the war."

From an AP article by Matthew Lee today:
"The United States on Tuesday suspended all land travel by U.S. diplomats and other civilian officials in Iraq outside Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, amid mounting public outrage over the alleged killing of civilians by the U.S. Embassy's security provider Blackwater USA.
The U.S. order confines most American officials to a 3.5-square-mile area in the center of the city, meaning they cannot visit U.S.-funded construction sites or Iraqi officials elsewhere in the country except by helicopter. The notice did not say when the suspension would expire."
Oh yeah, that surge is really working - no wonder we can pull the troops out now! Click here for the full story.
US workers in Iraq ordered to stay in the 'Green Zone.'
Al Qaeda is definitely surging though!

I don't know these cats from Adam but the track (prod. by DJ Hi-tek) is kind of cool for some underground, backpacker ish:
Pugs Atomz feat. Hall of Fame "Black Boy" (zshare download/stream mp3 link)
Thanks to the folks at Gravel Records.
Just got back from the A so this one's kind of appropriate since Soulja Boy still is the most official sh-t down there (besides "Duffle Bag Boys" that is). Travis Barker really f-cks with this hip hop sh-t for real though, huh?

This remix video by director Scenario was sent to me by 'G-Unit PR' so I'm assuming this might be actually semi-official even though Nina B (who the f-ck is she??) is supposedly signed to Ravenel Records (who??).

Bin Laden: still alive and free!
Truth be told, I'm still a little f-cked up over what happened all those years ago but life moves on and, not to be glib but, I'm now focused on another war today but you still gotta take a minute and reflect, right?
National Post: "General David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, declared yesterday that President George W. Bush's troop "surge" in that country is working, but warned that a rapid withdrawal before next summer would have "devastating consequences" on security."
US advised to reduce number of Iraq troops.

Havoc (of Mobb Deep) "Get Off My Dick" [YSI mp3 link] - taken from his forthcoming solo album, The Kush, in-stores 9/18/07.
I'm not mad at this to be honest. The Mobb have arguably fallen off pretty hard in recent years but Prodigy made a pretty decent solo album and now it looks Havoc might have too!
Bonus: "I'm the Boss" video.
I LOVE this! S'funny.... the other day Mr. Cee was playing the original version by Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince on his 'Old School at Noon' show on Hot 97: GREAT song. Anyone who thinks Will Smith wasn't hip hop is f-c kin' idiot!

New Lupe and Rhymefest tracks that both wear their Chicago club music influences pretty clearly on their sleeves:
Lupe Fiasco feat. Matthew Santos "Superstar (clean)" (YSI mp3 link) - a slowed-down Chicago deep house piano riff powers this really great track that reminds me of recent Mark Ronson productions. I could also see my dude Mickey Factz doing a remix on this too. The rhymes fall slightly short technically-wise but, considering I never bought into the hype on this dude, I have to concede that I am very impressed with this record. Who the f-ck is Matthew Santos though?? (mp3 and alt. zshare link, thanks YG | )
Rhymesfest "I Don't Know Where Yo Mouth Done Been (remix)" (zshare stream/download mp3 link) - straight (?) Chicago juke house vibes by DJ Slugo. I'm not mad at this either... at all.

Album coming November 2007, first single, "Woman" leaking out there now....
Labels: Raheem DeVaughn
You've already seen the parody cover (probably). Now check out excerpts from the real deal here.
For the record, I've been checking out both albums since they leaked last weekend and to me, Curtis is a better album than people want to admit. That's especially true considering how many pre-release singles came out and bricked yet most of them are still on the album and, amazingly, sound better within that context. Graduation on the other hand has some incredible songs and is a really creative piece of work but I'm already skipping tracks on my ipod and don't feel it's the masterwork that Late Registration, one of my favorite rap albums of all time, was. Still, it should be a great battle at retail next week.
