The First Presidential Debate: Complete Footage
My take on the debate?
I don't know how people can watch last night's debate and not see that Obama is our next president although I'm not sure it will move the polls significantly one way or another. Foreign policy is supposed to be McCain's strong suit but Obama seemed far more poised, nuanced, thoughtful and on top of the issues in general. Plus McCain just can't seem to stop lying and mischaracterizing everything Obama says, it's pathetic. This was a win for Obama in my book but I could see why some folks might score it a tie. Anyone calling this for McCain is just crazy though....

McCain's Bailout Proposal: even fewer regulations & more corporate tax cuts
I posted a link to this last night, but I had to give this video it's own post. Dude is unbelievable - now is the time for fewer regulations and more tax cuts?? Really?? WTF?? "We can't kill our way to victory..."
So says the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff , Adm. Mike Mullen about Afganistan. He also says the U.S. is "running out of time" to win the war in there. [CNN]
So on the seventh anniversary of 9/11 this is where we're at:
Bin Laden STILL not captured or dead, despite McCain claiming he has the plan on how to to do it!
Schumer sees gaps in US anti-terror efforts. [AP via Newsday]
The failure of Bush policy post-9/11 - "The "global war on terror" is over -- and we lost." [Salon]
Al Qaeda still thriving. [CNN]
Meanwhile there are hot spots in Pakistan and the former Soviet Union that the US is now stretched too thin, because of commitments in Iraq, to address militarily (if need be).

Rachel Maddow on the 'Lipstick Hysteria'
She does a nice wrap-up piece on this non-story with Newsweek's Jonathan Alter on the assist. I hope this nonsense dies down soon though.....

New Music: Jadakiss feat Jay-Z - "Who Run This"
This election got me riled up - but let's get back to the music....
Jadakiss feat. Jay-Z - "Who Run This" [zshare stream/download mp3 link via IllRoots.com]
I know the masses don't give a f-ck but this is hot to me. I guess old habits die hard. I also gotta respect the fact that son still calls himslef 'Al Qadea' Jada - now THAT takes cojones in this day and age! Jay shoulda spit a 16 on this though 'cos this is the kind of beat that I think might have inspired some hotter bars out of his old ass.....

John McCain's so-called 'Fact Check' TV spot
This n-gga McCain is f-cking outrageous! The imagery in this ad is ridiculous and last time I checked, doing opposition research on your political opponents was not illegal. Maybe Obama's lawyers can do the vetting of Palin that McCain's team failed to do.
BTW: like Stephanie Cutter of the Obama campaign notes, where was McCain's outrage when one of his supporters called Hillary Clinton a b-tch at a townhall meeting during the primary season?

John McCain claims he knows how to capture bin Laden....
If that's true, Olbermann made a great point in his Op-Ed tonight on MSNBC: what's he waiting for then - why doesn't he advise the appropriate, responsible authorities RIGHT NOW??
More on 9/11 tomorrow....

Interior Dept. Officials Embroiled in a Sex-for-Oil Scandal
From the Washington Post:
"Government officials in charge of collecting billions of dollars worth of royalties from oil and gas companies accepted lavish gifts, steered contracts to favored firms and engaged in illicit sex with employees of the energy companies, federal investigators reported today.
Investigators from the Interior Department's inspector general's office said more than a dozen employees, including the former director of the oil royalty program, accepted gifts including ski trips, sports tickets and golf outings. The report alleges that the former director, Gregory W. Smith, also arranged side deals that personally netted him more than $30,000."

Another look at the "Lipstick on a Pig" controversy
So I have to stand corrected. Apparently this is an old political term. To wit:
John McCain calling Hillary Clinton's Healthcare campaign proposal Lipstick on a Pig. [YouTube video]
McCain again in Denver in May of this year. [YouTube video]
Dick Cheney using the Lipstick on a Pig turn of phrase during the 2004 election campaign. [YouTube video]
Lipstick on a Pig - a 2006 book by Torie Clarke, a former advisor to John McCain!
And finally, Mike Huckabee, of all people, defending Obama to Sean Hannity on Fox News. [YouTube video]
Now that I've heard the full story, like Barack said, let's put this 'phony outrage' to rest. Will that happen though? Unlikely.

Barack Obama's Maverick Response Ad
I'm obviously riding for Barack but his team needs to step up their TV ad execution and sharpen up their overall campaign messaging 'cos, and maybe I just watch too much cable news, it feels like they are getting their clocks cleaned by McCain-Palin. Dude is too good to go out like John Kerry in 2004.
