Slim - "Heels On" featuring Ron Browz & Deezo (aka Fresh Money)
Two R&B posts in a row?? Whoa!!!
Ron Browz gets his lumps not only from bloggers but in the game in general but I like this joint which he not only raps on (yes, still using Autotune) but I think also produced:

New music: The Black Sunn - The Sunn is Black EP
Along with 810 and J. Nolan, this is another of the new independent artists I have been supporting since the end of last year. Here's the plug for his latest EP project:
"Here it is, the new EP that I have worked on since the summer: "The Sunn is Black". All the beats are Damu and I take care of all the lyrical work. I want this to be a warm up for the full length album that I am dropping on October 27th, (with all original production), entitled "GodSound". Spread the word, it's time the world takes notice to the eclipse that is The Black Sunn."

More on the Derrion Albert Tragedy....
Then Nas speaks on it in this Open Letter:
"Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong wars! Killing each other is definitely played out. Being hurt from the lost of a love one was never cool.
Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong war! I know that feeling, that frustration with life and needing to take it out on someone, any one. But....
We chose the dumbest things to go the hardest for. I remember seeing deaths over 8 ball jackets, Fila sneakers, and name plate chains. Deaths over "he say, she say"!!!!! "I'm from this block or I'm from that block", or "my moms n pops is f*cked up now the whole world gotta pay"!!!
I remember feeling like I was the hardest "n*gga" breathing. And I couldn't wait to prove it. But let's think. What are we really proving?? And proving what to who?? Everybody knows Chicago breeds the strongest of the strong but I just feel, me, being ya brother from another state feels your pain as if I grew up with you in ya very own household.
You have the ability and mindpower to change they way we are looked at. Look who's watching us young warriors, look who's throwing us in jail constantly, look at the ignorance in the world. Look at the racist dogs who love to see us down. Loving to bury us in the ground or in jail where we continue this worthless war on one another.
Young warriors.... We are WASTING more and more time. We gotta get on our jobs and take over the world. Cuz this movie left the theaters years ago, Juice, Menace, Boys n the Hood , Blood n Blood Out, Belly!
When we see each other why do we see hatred? Why were we born in a storm, born soldiers, WARRIORS....and instead of building each other up we are at war with each other.. May the soul of this young person find peace with the almighty. I'm with you young warriors. You're me and I'm you. But trust me! you are fighting the wrong war.
This sh*t sucks !!
-Nas"

More info:
"Four years ago, Dawn Smith was diagnosed with a rare, but treatable brain tumor. CIGNA denied her treatment for more than two years, but now that the spotlight's on them, they're changing their tune.
Unfortunately, they didn't offer any explanation for all the previous denials or a guarantee that they'll approve the next step in Dawn's treatment. Can you sign this statement of support to shine a light on Big Insurance's abusive tactics, get Dawn the care she needs and make sure they don't do this to anyone again?"

Video: Amnesia 10 Year Anniversary Recap
What is Amneisa? Glad you asked! Here's the history:
"In 1999, a chance conversation amongst friends unearthed the fact that the Toronto Urban entertainment scene lacked substance and failed to play music if it wasn’t new music. In fact, certain musical genres were found neglected and omitted – almost as though DJs and patrons had musical memory loss. In response, “AMNESIA”, a monthly old school event was born - with a mandate to play Classic House and Old School, and has grown to encompass other “forgotten genres” such as New Jack Swing (90s R&B), True School Hip Hop, Classic Slow Jams, and Retro including 70s and 80s television themes packaged as “Scratch’s Honky Hits.”
Over the past 10 years surprise guests have included hip hop icons MC Lyte, Special Ed, Greg Nice, CL Smooth, Chubb Rock and Naughty By Nature, house and dance acts Ten City (featuring Byron Stingly), Shannon (“Let the Music Play”), CeCe Peniston, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam and Canadian mainstays Maestro Fresh Wes, Michee Mee, Dream Warriors and the “T-Dot All-Stars” featuring Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates, Choclair, Ro Dolla and Solitair as well as dance crews Bag-A-Trix and Do Dat Dance Agency."
And they say the hip hop audience doesn't honor its old school artists! That's some people after my own heart. Congrats on a decade of doing it big, guys!

New music: Mikey D feat. Timid - "Chosen One"
Download: Mikey D feat. Timid - "Chosen One" [mp3 zshare links: clean | album courtesy Head Nod Music]
Who's Mikey D? The short version is he replaced Large Professor after he 'left' Main Source.
Here's the longer version though:
"Born in Queens, New York as Michael Anthony Deering.
At an early age, Mikey started out on the park jam circuit with the
Clientele Brothers. MC's Will Seville, Eddie O' Jay along with Mean
Gene were considered among the best at displaying real rhyme skills as
a group similar to the Cold Crush Brothers and The Force MC's (later
renamed The Force MD's). As a group, the Clientele Brothers were
looking for the next hot MC - enter Playboy Mikey D. With Mikey, the
group had the last ingredient and they definitely took the Queens park
jam scene to the next level.
As Hip Hop phenomena grew in the mid 1980's, the time came for a
record deal. In 1985, Mikey D along with the Symbolic Three singed to
Reality Records. With Producers Ray (Professor KB) Romain, Dr. Rhythm
and Dr. Shock, songs like 'No Show' (the answer to Doug E Fresh and
Slick Rick's 'The Show'), along with 'Treacherous' took underground
radio by surprise. In 1986, Mikey D (and DJ Johnnie Quest) signed with
Public Records and put out classics Like 'Dawn,' 'My Telephone,' and
'Bust A Rhyme'. In 1987 he hit the industry with 'I Get Rough' (B side
'Go For it') with legendary producer Paul C.
In 1988, Mikey's career really got hot when he signed to Sleeping Bag
Records. The record company was so enthused by the Queens battle
legend's reputation; they entered him into the New Music Seminar.
After battling several known and unknown rappers round by round he was
victorious and proclaimed the best MC in the world (as he predicted in
1987's 'I Get Rough'). Later that year, he released 'Out Of Control'
and the wicked 'Comin' In The House'.
In 1994 Mikey D was enlisted by the groundbreaking Main Source to
replace their lead MC Large Professor. Mikey (along with K-Cut and Sir
Scratch) hit the studio and recorded the sequel to 'Breaking Atoms'
entitled "F*ck What You Think". Although another historic album was
birthed, it was not released due to infighting between the record
label and group management. After all of the chaos he had been
through, the legendary rapper took a step back from the music he loved
so much to focus on family and other pressing issues."

Eclipse on his September 23 Halftime Show Roc Raida Tribute show:
"On Sunday night I threw together a short Roc Raida tribute set at the beginning of my Sirius show. On Monday night Premier and I held our monthly "Like They Used To Say" party at APT which we dedicated to Roc Raida and were able to raise over $4,000 for his family. On Wednesday night I wanted to do a proper tribute show so I contemplated on what to do. As I compiled every song I could that Raida was featured on (production or scratches) I thought it would be better to reach out to his friends and get their take on what the man meant to them. What started out as a dozen or so people that I intended to talk to snowballed into phone call after phone call of friends wanting to share stories. Please forgive me if I left out someone's name (or misspelled) in this email, but following is a list of who called or showed up at station (no particular order):
Boogie Blind, Daddy Dog, Roli Rho, Kuttin Kandi, Riz, JS-1, Jab, Sugar Cuts, Neil Armstrong, Fat Fingaz, Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike, A-Trak, J-Rocc, Babu, Rhettmatic, Scratch, Revolution, Rahzel, Bobbito, A.G., Lord Finesse, Dr. Butcher, Vin Roc, DJ Grouch, Freestyle, Spictakular, Shortkut, Supreme and Tame One.
We ended up going an hour longer then we should have. In between calls I found some old cassette tapes of radio show appearances by the X-Men. I hope you enjoy listening to the show as much as I did. Thanks to the whole Halftime crew for making this run smooth; Skizz, Petey Cologne and Marz One. To everyone that showed up or called in....I love you all."

New music: Beatnick & K-Salaam - Never Can Say Goodbye
I had to post this just on the basis of the amazingly beautiful artwork, never mind the legends whose music is involved. Check out the background on this project:
"Today we proudly present production duo Beatnick & K-Salaam's latest project, Never Can Say Goodbye. This is a remix project featuring classic songs from Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder, all over B&K's production. We've been giving you snippets and samples for the past few weeks, and now it's time for the main course."

Hip Hop Super Tuesday: How'd I Do??
So a couple weeks ago, I took a guess at how some of the major hip hop releases for Sept. 15 would do on soundscan. Luckily I qualified my estimates by saying, "I did this without cribbing from Hits or reading any other industry trade info or talking to any of my peoples in the industry so these are pretty much blind predictions that could be wildly off on the high or low side" because most of my numbers were way off and, happily, way low. Like I said previously too though I was happy to be so off. Who says no-one buys music, especially hip hop any more? Here's the final results:
1. Drake - So Far Gone: 45,000 (Actual: 73,000 #6)
2. Lil Boosie - SuperBad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz: 35,000 (Actual: 49,000 #7)
3. Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon: The End of Day: 30,000 (Actual: 104,000 #4)
4. Q-tip - Kamaal the Abstract: 18,000 (Actual: 6,000 #77 - ouch!)
5. M.O.P. - Foundation: 16,000 (Actual: 2,100 but did not chart - damn!)
6. KRS-One & Buckshot - Surivival Skills: 12,000 (Actual: 8,400 #64)
7. N.O.R.E. - S.O.R.E.: 2,500 (even hip hop site, XXL didn't get into what this sold , that's how irrelevant the numbers must have been. Damn!)
Congrats to Cudi on his surprise (to me, at least) 6-figure, 1st week bow on the charts. I really didn't see that coming but I'm happy for him. Even though I'm not sure I love his record as much as others, I do recognize that this kid is pioneering something new here in hip hop and these sales figures are clearly a validation of that. In the end, Art wins and that's a good thing no matter what you may think of his music.
I forgot this when I first did this post, congrats to Hov too on staying at #1 a second week with just shy of 300,000 units sold. Dropping only 37% second week and moving a total of 775,000 units in 2 weeks for a veteran rapper on his eleventh album is nothin' to sneeze at! So much for my prognostications on BP3 too. Fail all around?
Other notables hip hop chart stats:
New Boyz: 10,000 (#56), Trick Daddy: 13,000 (#34)

Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg Threatens to Assault Combat Jack via Twitter
How do you keep a job as a media figure when you're out there unapologetically threatening members of the public via twitter? Is there any justification for this? I mean, if Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck did this, wouldn't there be a huge outcry to fire or at least reprimand them?? I wonder if Hot 97 is even aware of/looking into this? [via Bol]

Video: President Obama's Interview on the Late Show with David Letterman
If you really don't have a spare five minutes to watch all the highlights though, here's a clip of Obama saying he doesn't believe racism is at the root of objections to his health care reform efforts like former President Carter claims:
Agree? Me, I'm not sure Obama is right here when I see photos like this, but I know he's saying the politically smart thing here instead of what he may or may not really feel.

New music: blctxt - "Wonderwall" / "Hellraiser"
Well new-ish. I got sent these tracks a few days after I first posted stuff from this dude back early last month but slacked crazy on sharing them, 'til now obvs. Dude is wild talented though so get at this - don't front 'cos you don't know his name and you ain't seeing him getting a lot of looks on some of the bigger blogs out there. This is some good-ass hip hop!
Download:
blctxt - "Wonderwall" | "Hellraiser" [yousendit mp3 links]
BTW: Yes, that "Wonderwall" track samples the Oasis song of the same name and it's hot! Both tracks are from blctxt's Contxt Clues album which I believe is out now?

Music from new artist Hiroller
I've featured this dude's music before but I know half you cats skip by the posts by new or unsigned artists waiting for the next post with free music from Drake, Yeezy and Wayne. Get your minds right! I don't even think these tracks are necessarily the best representation of his excellent The Premonition mixtape which these tracks came from, but they are solid nonetheless. Do yourself a favor though: just download the whole mixtape and take the whole thing in as a body of work the way it was constructed and intended to be heard.
Sample some tracks from The Premonition mixtape:
"Words from the Wise (Never Be New Again)"
"It's Not OK (Scene #8)" Co-Starring Keishera James [usershare mp3 download link]
"The Flight (The Premonition Scene #10)" [usershare mp3 download link]
