New Music: De La Soul - The Return of DST
This dropped over the weekend but I didn't want to post it then and let it get lost or forgotten in the ether and wasteland of that (relatively) dead period. This sh-t is AMAZING! De La is still better than over 99% of these so-called rappers you think are hot right now. Don't f-ck this off, LISTEN TO IT!!!! And don't know who (Grandmaster) DST is?? Do your homework!

Music video: Gorillaz - Stylo feat. Mos Def & Bobby Womack
Dude to standard music label f-ckery, I can't embed the video here. Wack but fine, but you don't have an embed code up on Vevo (a site that the labels own), myspace, youtube or anywhere else the industry has already negotiated deals to get paid on video streaming. WTF?? I was gonna just embed the OnSmash version on some "F-ck you" sh-t, but I don't wanna antagonize these f-cking labels any more than I have to and I figure one extra click won't kill you guys. "The video follows Gorillaz bass playing demigod Murdoc Niccals through a dangerous trip to the mainland from his new home on Plastic Beach - the namesake of the new record. Something goes badly wrong and Murdoc, guitarist/Cyborg Noodle and vocalist 2D end up in a high speed car chase with a local cop and an unknown assailant. Cyborg Noodle's circuits start failing and 2D fears for their lives as the gun toting bounty hunter draws ever closer...
Mighty Murdoc remembers, "Someone was chasing me through the desert! Luckily I had my camera crew following me and they captured it all on film, so I've cut it up and stuck it back together for my Stylo video! That'll learn me not to leave the safe, toxic, isolated haven of Plastic Beach..."
Murdoc's new stomping grounds can now be thoroughly explored with the launch of www.Gorillaz.com relocated from the now defunct Kong Studios (RIP) to the band's newly constructed island hideaway at Plastic Beach.
Stylo is directed by Jamie Hewlett and produced by Cara Speller for Zombie Flesh Eaters, with live action through HSI Productions in Los Angeles, and animation by Passion Pictures in London.
Plastic Beach will be released by Parlophone in the UK on March 8th; Stylo is available for download now."

On the 20 Years High and Rising Tour with full band. When they spit over The Clash's "This is Radio Clash" (see clip above) near the beginning, I almost nutted on myself. De la Soul = one of the all-time great groups in hip hop. I am privileged to happen to know these guys. Maybe I'll upload an interview I did on these guys for Bodega Radio some time....

Throwback Music: De La Soul - AOI: Bionix Album Sampler (Hosted by DJ's Kay Slay & Maseo)
I know this is wild old but I just came across it while still unpacking (which is gonna take a minute, believe me!) and decided to post it: 1. because its an interesting artifact (I mean De La with Kay Slay?!?! WTF?!?! LOL... ) and 2. it shines the spotlight on an album that got heavily slept on, even by some committed De La fans.
For all you heads that cite Kanye's work as being progressive, mature and spiritual for hip hop who haven't checked this album out, I urge you do do so. De La Soul is a group that has NEVER fallen off from a creative point of view IMHO. Pos and Dave will eat any of the new MC's you new jacks swear by, Wale, Cudi, Drake, Phonte, whomever, right now in 2009! Try to argue with me that I'm wrong on this. Anyway, check this out and tell me what you think. Shout also to my dude, Kvn who did the great artwork on this project.
