New video: Audio Push - "Teach Me How To Jerk"
Click here to read about how labels are trying to cash in on the west coast jerkin' dance craze. I can't believe, Warner Bros. signed four groups in this scene. I actually like jerk music but isn't that like signing four 'snap music' acts or something?? WTF??!?! I'm having visions of hyphy!

TOMORROW NIGHT: Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs DJing Live In Los Angeles
More from those wacky 'Family Values' Republicans
The video above offers more details on the story of Paul Stanley, a Tennessee State Senator, who was having an affair with his 22-year old intern! Here's the backgrounder:
"A Tennessee lawmaker resigned from the state Senate on Tuesday after his extramarital affair with a 22-year-old intern was revealed by an investigation into an extortion case.
"Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10," Republican Sen. Paul Stanley wrote in his resignation letter.
Stanley's legislative proposals were largely focused on pro-business issues, but he also sponsored failed measures to ban gay couples from adopting children. He also spoke out against funding for Planned Parenthood because he said unmarried people should not have sex.
"Whatever I stood for and advocated, I still believe to be true," he said during an interview Tuesday with Memphis radio station WREC-AM. "And just because I fell far short of what God's standard was for me and my wife, doesn't mean that that standard is reduced in the least bit."" [click here for the full article at Huff Post]

Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's Doctor Rosen Rosen remix album
A remix project for Lily Allen's latest album, It's Not Me, It's You, by LA-producer Doctor Rosen Rosen . Peep the album M.O. here:
"I saw Lily Allen for the first time in 2006 while on tour in Iceland. We didn't actually meet face to face and I didn't even catch her name; my introduction was seeing her video for "Smile" in a crappy hotel room. A few days later I was strolling around a gigantic Virgin Record store in London, when I saw a poster of her and the name... Lily Allen. I snagged her debut record and went home to New York a fan.
Fast forward to 3 years later: Lily Allen is a bonefied pop-star and is releasing her second album It's Not Me, It's You. I reach out to her US record label to see if they were commissioning any remixes... no dice. Lily was, however, releasing all of the parts to all of the songs on the album so anyone could remix them. Brilliant. I knew I had to remix the whole album.
One thing I really like about Lily Allen is her knack for pairing bouncy music with not-so-bouncy lyrics. My goal in remixing her entire record was to see what would happen if I placed Lily's voice and lyrics into new musical landscapes that were a complete departure from the original recordings. As most of the original album It's Not Me, It's You is upbeat (thanks to Greg Kurstin's awesome production) my remixed version It's Not Me, It's Doctor Rosen Rosen takes on a darker/dreamier tone. I mixed a lot of organic sounds (pianos, strings, glockenspiel, horns) with dreamy synths, deep basses, and big drums to create a totally new record. I produced, composed, and mixed all of the music you hear. The only original parts I used were Lily's vocal tracks.
I really enjoyed making this and I hope you enjoy listening.
Best, Doctor Rosen Rosen."

New R&B artist: Nathan
I'm mostly posting on this new UK cat 'cos his track, "Dirty Sexy Money" samples Justice's "Genesis" - CRAZY! He's like a college-age Chris Brown, vocally but his other track, "Superwoman" is kind of typical, generic R&B balladry. Could he win in the US though? I've long since given up trying to predict that sh-t! Check it and decide for yourself:

Hmmm.
BTW: all those engaged in the Treach vs. Redman debate I saw on Twitter the other day, listen to this record. This is yet another record showing how masssively influenced Em' has been by Treach's flow. The premise, that the "remaining great singers and musicians of Jamaica's Golden Age of music, Rocksteady, come together after 40 years to record an album of their greatest hits, to perform together again at a reunion concert in Kingston, and to tell their story", is kind of like a reggae version of The Buena Vista Social Club.

We interrupt this program for a special announcement...
Regular readers have probably noticed the frequency of my output on this blog has dropped a fair amount in the past few weeks. The reasons for this are several, (most of them federal... I keed!) but it mostly boils down to the the fact that I recently moved back to the T.dot from NYC after a LONG-ASS time and am taking a time-out to clean house, take stock & reassess what's next in my life. If all goes to plan, things could take some interesting turns over the next year or two but I'll get into that as they (hopefully) manifest. Be clear though: the plan is that posting will continue but probably not on as quite a frequent basis as in the past and with more of a throwback angle to it (but there will still be new stuff too!). In the meantime, not that avid readers really need it but, in case you need suggestions on where to go for a more regular fix of the fly sh-t, hip hop-related or otherwise, besides the obvious, usual suspects, may I suggest:
Please Don't Stare
Hold the Throne
Unkut.com
Grand Good
Combat Jack's Daily Mathematics
Aqua Boogie's Slang Rap Democracy
Traps N Trunks
Mick Boogie & Terry Urban's The Press Play Show
And 'cos I'm back home in Toronto, let me not forget:
Del F. Cowie's Vibes and Stuff
The new City on my Back blog from the Flow 93.5 OTA crew and
1 love T.O.
Shout to Rizoh, Trent, Stone, Ye and 50 too! I know I'm missing tons of others but honestly I'm not running down my whole blogroll now even though I ain't updated it in like over 3 years and I promised to get it done by end of July (yeah, right!).
