Pastor Terry Jones On the Koran Burning: 'Not Today, Not Ever'

Read more on this at MSNBC.com HERE.

I feel like I shouldn't give this moron a platform, even on my little blog but at least he made the right decision in the end.

Video of the Interfaith Press Conference at The National Press Club in Washington DC

While everyone else is hyping up this nut-job Terry Jones, the so-called Pastor behind the absurd 'Burn a Koran Day' scheduled for this Saturday I'm gonna spread love (and tolerance), it's the Brooklyn Way!

CNN covered interfaith call to oppose Koran burning. Who didn't? - why haven't more print, online and TV media outlets covered this? I had real problems trying to find news and video of this online.

Music Video: Jasiri X - Dr. King's Nightmare: Dr. King Responds to Glenn Beck

Via Jasiri X:

"This was part of a song Me and Paradise the Arkitech had intended to do as coverage of Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally, as well as Al Sharpton's "Reclaim the Dream" rally. The plan was to spit a rhyme from both perspectives then end with a verse from Dr. King himself. We eventually decided to scrap the idea and concentrate on our next video. However, this article by Legendary Hip-Hop Journalist Davey D inspired me to record my Dr. King verse to Kayne West's "Power" and create a video around it.

Written from the perspective of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jasiri X responds to Glenn Beck's rally and the growing racial and economic divide in America. From the police's brutal beating of Jordan Miles in Pittsburgh and murder of Oscar Grant in Oakland, the increasing poverty and joblessness, to the ever expanding racial division lead by the rhetoric of those like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin... Dr. King's dream has turned into a nightmare."

LYRICS
I can't believe 47 years after our march
Instead of more enlightened y'all going back to the dark
I thought this was the generation that would capture the spark
To see it even more divided is like a stab to the heart
So ashamed that they want to evoke my name
To try a stoke the flame and make folks deranged
Trying to find scape goats to blame
That lynch mob mentality was the reason from ropes we hanged
So why try to provoke the pain is ya hope and aim
To see the flag blood soaked and stained
These wicked special interests try to coach the game
Cause the wider the divide they have the most to gain
See my dream was far deeper than racial equality
Tried to rid America of the disgrace of poverty
And challenge the government to create the policies that would make equality not a fake democracy
That spend billions on war with such great hypocrisy
And that's the reason that I met fate on that balcony
That's the reason that I met my fate on the balcony
That's the real reason that I met my fate on that balcony
No fool like Beck should have all that power
Buying into all that fear makes you a coward
Whose gonna stand up for the poor in this hour.

Sigh... Yet Another Conservative Anti-Gay Activist Turns Out To Be Gay!

*Smh....* Rentboy.com??!? LOL!!! Seriously though, how many times I'm gonna read this story? Pretty much at this point in the game if you're one of these so-called religious right, conservative anti-gay activist obsessives, I'm gonna assume you're probably covering up for the fact that you're really actually gay....

Seriously though (not really), the entire story of George Rekers' week-long vacation in Europe with a male prostitute is pure comedy. Read about it on Huff Post HERE.

Christian Militia Domestic Terror Plot Foiled!

So help me out here: how is the Hutaree, this so-called 'Christian Militia' that plotted to kill a policeman and bomb his funeral in the hope of spurring an anti-government uprising different than your standard-issue ragtag Al Qaeda-inspired Muslim terror cell?? [Guardian]

And watch the video above: dude chooses his words very carefully saying his 'citizen militia' group disassociated themselves from the Hutaree after 'training' them, once they learned of their beliefs. But beyond that and his dubious claim that his group's primary mission is to function in a quasi-FEMA/National Guard role in times of emergency and not as a Christian fundamentalist, survivalist group like the Hutaree, I'm not sure why I shouldn't look at him sideways too the same Tea Baggers, xenophobes and other right wing racists do all Muslim or brown people in the wake of every new Muslim terror incident.

The American Right Wing Response to the Haiti Earthquake Crisis, Part I

Dude called the crisis a 'blessing in disguise' and blames the Earthquake on a deal the Haitians made with the Devil to gain their independence - WTF??!!! I've said it before: Pat Robertson is out of his f-cking mind!

Video: Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) Suggests President Obama's Mother Would Have Aborted Him

As well as, oddly enough, Clarence Thomas' mother possibly aborting him if the current incarnation of the health care reform bill, which he claims includes public funding for abortions-on-demand, existed back when they were both pregnant. If that ain't some racist-ass, sideways, slick-talk BS designed to scare the religious right, racist whites and yes, socially-conservative-but-politically-naive African-Americans into rallying to the anti-reform side of the health care debate, I don't know what is....

More from those wacky 'Family Values' Republicans

The video above offers more details on the story of Paul Stanley, a Tennessee State Senator, who was having an affair with his 22-year old intern! Here's the backgrounder:

"A Tennessee lawmaker resigned from the state Senate on Tuesday after his extramarital affair with a 22-year-old intern was revealed by an investigation into an extortion case.

"Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10," Republican Sen. Paul Stanley wrote in his resignation letter.

Stanley's legislative proposals were largely focused on pro-business issues, but he also sponsored failed measures to ban gay couples from adopting children. He also spoke out against funding for Planned Parenthood because he said unmarried people should not have sex.

"Whatever I stood for and advocated, I still believe to be true," he said during an interview Tuesday with Memphis radio station WREC-AM. "And just because I fell far short of what God's standard was for me and my wife, doesn't mean that that standard is reduced in the least bit."" [click here for the full article at Huff Post]

When the Religious Right Goes Wrong...

Again?

"There were frozen embryos left over after [Nadya Suleman]'s previous pregnancies and [she] didn't want them destroyed, so she decided to have more children."

So much for that snowflake theory! I don't think that Nadya Suleman is actually a Christian conservative (she may actually be of Iraqi and possibly, Muslim extraction) but her kind of thinking on this issue definitely falls in line with their doctrinal approach to this issue. But to what end?

Another crazy McCain supporter: "I can't imagine a President being named Obama!"

Imagine it, honey!

The woman in the above clip from 'Now on PBS', Tracy Kerlee's most important election issues: "[Voting for] the one that has the most faith in the Lord...." [video via Crooks and Liars]

Related:

Perhaps if Tracy, and others like her, are so concerned about whether Obama is a real American who shares their 'values' they should consider the following:

McCain was still married to his wife when he got married to his mistress. [LA Times]

"McCain's citizenship called into question - Candidate, born in the Panama Canal Zone, may not qualify as 'natural born.'" I know this has been 'resolved' but the way they questioned Obama's citizenship, you'd think McCain was lily white clean on this issue. WTF? [MSNBC.com]

Judd Apatow: Hollywood filmaker the Religious Right can love?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Just back after a ridiculous 11 hour trip from Florida (don't ask!). I'll get into that and more regular Kitchen-style posts later this week but in the meantime, let me just throw this out: I haven't been reading the Times regularly recently but I guess its influence on how I look at the world is still apparent.

So after I started seeing the trailer for Judd Apatow's latest film, Knocked Up a couple weeks ago I started thinking, "Behind the [admitted really well-executed] low-brow humor, is this dude actually a closet social conservative?!" Think about it: his first hit movie 40 Year Old Virgin is ultimately about a guy who is still a virgin way into his adult life and decides to remain so until he marries the woman he has fallen in love with despite his friends pressuring him to have sex. Now comes his follow-up film Knocked Up which tells the story of a couple trying to make a go of a relationship to raise the child they are expecting after a one-night stand. I thought I was the only one with these genius social-cultural insights until I picked up the Sunday Times yesterday:

Judd Apatow's Family Values

On Abortion, Hollywood Is No-Choice

So I guess I wasn't that original in my thinking after all, huh?
