Some Republicans Emerge To Endorse Barack Obama

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From The New York Sun:

" With an eye to the general election and the Pennsylvania primary, some Republicans who oppose President Bush's war policy are endorsing Senator Obama.

Call them the Obamacans: They are against continuing the Iraq war and reject what they see as Mr. Bush's unconstitutional buildup of executive power."

Upcoming at the Brooklyn Museum: Takashi Murakami Exhibit

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Opening April 5th. If you're wondering who the hell this is, he's the dude who designed the Kanye West Graduation album cover. Details on the exhibit from the Brooklyn Museum Website:

"The most comprehensive retrospective to date of the work of internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Takashi Murakami includes more than ninety works in various media that span the artist’s entire career, installed in more than 18,500 square feet of gallery space.

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Murakami is one of the most influential and acclaimed artists to have emerged from Asia in the late twentieth century, creating a wide-ranging body of work that consciously bridges fine art, design, animation, fashion, and popular culture. He received a Ph.D. from the prestigious Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he was trained in the school of traditional Japanese painting known as Nihonga, a nineteenth-century mixture of Western and Eastern styles."

This chick out of England has been buzzing for a minute. Is she the next Amy Winehouse? Foxy Brown "Star Cry" [zshare stream/download mp3 link]

Truthfully, the demise of Fox Boogie's career is one of the saddest things I've seen in hip hop. There was a time when she was no joke, hot-fiya but no more based on the tracks, including this one (the heartfelt lyrics notwithstanding), that have leaked from her forthcoming album Brooklyn's Don Diva in stores 5.13.08.

A Bill Clinton, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. photo appears....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I love it! Only in America:

"In a photo provided by the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton is seen with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. at a breakfast in 1998 hours before the Kenneth Starr report on the Monica Lewinsky scandal was made public."

Click here for more from The Swamp blog at the Baltimore Sun.

Update: I've been thinking about this a little more. Why did the Obama campaign release this photo? The Wright controversy seems to be an issue with conservatives and on-the-fence independents who were looking for an excuse NOT to vote for him. Releasing this photo does not help swing these people back his way (or does it)?

Fallon resigns as Mideast military chief

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From a USA Today article by Jim Michaels:

"The top commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East abruptly announced his resignation Tuesday a week after the publication of a magazine article that described him as being at odds with the Bush administration's stance toward Iran.

In a profile in Esquire magazine, author Thomas P.M. Barnett described Adm. William Fallon as "brazenly" challenging the Bush administration and pushing back against a president "who trash-talks his way to World War III" with Iran.

Fallon denied a difference in policy, but called the news reports a distraction. "The simple perception that there is makes it difficult for me to effectively serve America's interests," Fallon said in a statement."

UN: Drop in Iraq Violence May Not Last

From AP article by Ryan Lenz:

"The influx of thousands of U.S. forces has driven down insurgent attacks in Baghdad, but violence elsewhere in Iraq raises questions about whether killings will continue to drop as American forces begin to leave, the United Nations said Saturday.

As security improved in Baghdad, violent attacks spread last year to other parts of the country, including Diyala Province and Mosul, al-Qaida's last urban stronghold, according to the report from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq."

Halliburton Subsidiary Gave Iraq Soldiers Dirty Water

From a Washington Post article:

"U.S. soldiers at a military base in Iraq were provided with treated but untested wastewater for nearly two years by KBR, the giant government contractor, and may have suffered health problems as a result, according to a report released yesterday by the Pentagon's inspector general."

Click here for the full article.

For those not knowing, KBR (Kellog-Brown & Root) is a subsidiary of Halliburton, a company best known for: 1. being run by Dick Cheney back in the day, 2. ripping off the American people for services provided in Iraq and 3. a gang rape scandal surrounding some of their Iraq-based workers.

FYI: the video above is a bonus scene from the documentary Iraq for Sale discussing the 'dirty water' scandal when it first broke in 2006. (I was on it back then too!)

Geraldine Ferraro: Clinton's Latest Designated Attack Dog?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This is just pathetic:

"In a telephone interview last week with the Daily Breeze of Torrance in advance of a local appearance Sunday, Ferraro said: "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman [of any color] he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is."

In a brief Associated Press interview Tuesday while in Harrisburg, Pa., Clinton said she did not agree with Ferraro. She added, "It's regrettable that any of our supporters -- on both sides, because we both have this experience -- say things that kind of veer off into the personal."

Obama, in an interview with the Morning Call of Allentown, Pa., said, "I don't think Geraldine Ferraro's comments have any place in our politics or in the Democratic Party. They are divisive. I think anybody who understands the history of this country knows they are patently absurd. And I would expect that the same way those comments don't have a place in my campaign they shouldn't have a place in Sen. Clinton's either.""

Ferraro was a loser back in the day and she's a loser now. Clinton needs to stop with these sad desperation attacks (now being done by proxy?!) before I lose what little respect I still have for her. Click here for the full article by Robin Abcarian from the LA Times.

From CNBC.com:

"If Eliot Spitzer resigns, he would be succeeded by Lt. Governor David A. Paterson, who would become New York's first African American governor and the first who is legally blind."

Exhaustive review finds no link between Saddam and al Qaida

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From an article by Warren P. Strobel:

"An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network."

Not sure if anyone (other than Dick Cheney and a few other right-wing crackpots) is still disputing this point but it's always good to reinforce it. Click here for more.

The $3 Trillion War!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From a Vanity Fair article by Joseph E. Stiglitz and Linda J. Bilmes:

"On March 19, 2008, the U.S. will have been in Iraq for five years. The Bush administration was wrong about the need for the Iraq war and about the benefits the war would bring to Iraq, to the region, and to America. It has also been wrong about the full cost of the war, and it continues to take steps to conceal that cost.

After wildly lowballing the cost of the Iraq conflict at a mere $50 to $60 billion, the Bush administration has been concealing the full economic toll. The spending on military operations is merely the tip of a vast fiscal iceberg. In an excerpt from their new book, the authors calculate the grim bottom line."
