Throwback music: Whooliganz

Aka the junior division of the Soul Assassins crew in the early 90's and notable for featuring group members Mudfoot and Divine (that second name later switched to Mad Skillz for obvious reasons), now better known as underground rap super producer Alchemist and Scott Caan, star of the Oceans 11-13 movies and son of James Caan.

Front if you want because what this duo looks like and their pedigree but those beats are hard and Al could spit when he was little dunny. He was like a baby Grand Puba if he had grown up in Beverly Hills instead of New Rochelle. Here's some YouTube rips of some other Whooliganz tracks:

Whooliganz - "Put Your Handz Up (QDIII Remix)" [YSI mp3 D/L link]

Whooliganz feat. B-Real - "Whooliganz" [YSI mp3 D/L link]

Whooliganz feat. Everlast - "Hit the Deck" [YSI mp3 D/L link]

I actually have some more of their stuff on a minidisk somewhere. If I ever come across it, I'll post some more if people are interested.

New video: La Coka Nostra - "That's Coke"

Directed by Danny Boy O'Connor, formerly of House of Pain. Good timing with it being St. Patrick's Day 'n all, no?

Everlast - "Letters Home from the Garden of Stone" (video)

I missed this one so thanks to Jessica at red TANGENT for the heads up. This is the new single by Everlast (House of Pain, "What It's Like"), the lyrics for which are taken from a soldier's letter written home from Iraq.

Between this and that Will.i.am song that repurposed the text of a Barack Obama speech for its lyrics, is this the dawning of a new politically conscious era or a new form of 'hip hop' that finally realizes the promise of Chuck D's vision of the music as 'Black America's CNN' by literally sampling the news?
