Sample sets for Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One and Onyx from Hip Hop is Read

Hip Hop is Read has been doing this excellent series of sample sets for a while but these are the latest ones they have featured. Kane's second album has always been slept on relative to his first classic, Long Live the Kane and KRS-One's Return of the Boom Bap is possibly the archetypal 90's-era 'boom-bap' hip hop album. Check 'em out if you're into beat diggin' and sample production stuff:

Teaser video for the BDK Big Daddy Kane documentary

Directed by the homie, Anthony Marshall of Lyricist Lounge. Here's a synopsis of BDK:

"When it comes to hip hop, there are only a handful of people that truly deserve to be called legends. In BDK, we learn the story of one of hip hop's most notable legends, Big Daddy Kane. From music to fashion, Kane has always been a quintessential figure of the Golden Era of hip hop. In this documentary, directed by Anthony Marshall (co-founder of Lyricist Lounge), Kane talks about his years growing up as a kid in New York, his life in the rap game, his influence on fashion and his lyrical superiority."

Miss Info's video of Big Daddy Kane’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

I wanted to check out this show but I've been burning the candle at both ends for weeks now and was wild tired. Looks like it was a good show and good times based on these clips: I mean "The Symphony" live - with a band! Doesn't get much better than that, does it? I actually saw Long Live the Kane for $6.99 last week at J&R while I was down there coppin' the Q-tip album (and some cheap Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Camp Lo CD's which I also spotted while I there). I have the wax but that's a classic, I might have to go back and get that on CD too. [via Miss Info]
