Bush to veto Children's Health Care Bill
Bush explaining why he says, "F-ck them kids...."
From an AP article titled "Bush: Kids' Health Care Will Get Vetoed" written by Jennifer Loven:
"President Bush again called Democrats "irresponsible" on Saturday for pushing an expansion he opposes to a children's health insurance program.
At issue is the Children's Health Insurance Program, a state-federal program that subsidizes health coverage for low-income people, mostly children, in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private coverage. It expires Sept. 30.
The idea is overwhelmingly supported by Congress' majority Democrats, who scheduled it for a vote Tuesday in the House. It has substantial Republican support as well [emphasis added].
But Bush has promised a veto, saying the measure is too costly, unacceptably raises taxes, extends government-covered insurance to children in families who can afford private coverage, and smacks of a move toward completely federalized health care. He has asked Congress to pass a simple extension of the current program while debate continues, saying it's children who will suffer if they do not."

Blackwater faces illegal weapons smuggling investigation
To begin with, a little background info on Blackwater, the 'Shadow Army' of America from VideoNation, the Nation magazine's YouTube channel:
And also via YouTube: Blackwater, America's Private Army.
But getting to current events now: Iraq Orders Blackwater USA Contractors Out.
And from CNN.com:
"Federal prosecutors are investigating allegations that employees of Blackwater -- the security firm accused of killing up to 20 Iraqi civilians -- illegally smuggled weapons into Iraq, according to U.S. government sources.
Security operations by North Carolina-based Blackwater USA, which is hired by the U.S. State Department to guard U.S. staff in Iraq, were suspended this week amid concerns by Iraqi and U.S. government officials over the shootings in Baghdad last weekend."

Jena 6: the latest developments
So September 20 was a 'National Day of Action' on the Jena 6 case. Besides this much-needed grassroots call to action, this case is also finally starting to garner some mainstream attention (even as, at the same time, the MSM stays fixated on other black men), but I'ma show love to some of my fellow 'hip hop bloggers' (and others) who've been on this story:

Sunni Sheik Who Backed U.S. in Iraq Is Killed
Image BuckFush.com via Bartcop (natch)
More evidence that the US presence is helping steer Iraq in the 'right direction':
"A high-profile Sunni Arab sheik who collaborated with the American military in the fight against jihadist militants in western Iraq was killed in a bomb attack on Thursday near his desert compound. The attack appeared to be a precisely planned assassination meant to undermine one of the Bush administration’s trumpeted achievements in the war."

Iraq Surge Update
Image via Bartcop (as always)
From an AP article by Matthew Lee today:
"The United States on Tuesday suspended all land travel by U.S. diplomats and other civilian officials in Iraq outside Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, amid mounting public outrage over the alleged killing of civilians by the U.S. Embassy's security provider Blackwater USA.
The U.S. order confines most American officials to a 3.5-square-mile area in the center of the city, meaning they cannot visit U.S.-funded construction sites or Iraqi officials elsewhere in the country except by helicopter. The notice did not say when the suspension would expire."
Oh yeah, that surge is really working - no wonder we can pull the troops out now! Click here for the full story.

And they say Chi city....
New Lupe and Rhymefest tracks that both wear their Chicago club music influences pretty clearly on their sleeves:
Lupe Fiasco feat. Matthew Santos "Superstar (clean)" (YSI mp3 link) - a slowed-down Chicago deep house piano riff powers this really great track that reminds me of recent Mark Ronson productions. I could also see my dude Mickey Factz doing a remix on this too. The rhymes fall slightly short technically-wise but, considering I never bought into the hype on this dude, I have to concede that I am very impressed with this record. Who the f-ck is Matthew Santos though?? (mp3 and alt. zshare link, thanks YG | )
Rhymesfest "I Don't Know Where Yo Mouth Done Been (remix)" (zshare stream/download mp3 link) - straight (?) Chicago juke house vibes by DJ Slugo. I'm not mad at this either... at all.

50 Cent/Kanye West Rolling Stone cover
You've already seen the parody cover (probably). Now check out excerpts from the real deal here.
For the record, I've been checking out both albums since they leaked last weekend and to me, Curtis is a better album than people want to admit. That's especially true considering how many pre-release singles came out and bricked yet most of them are still on the album and, amazingly, sound better within that context. Graduation on the other hand has some incredible songs and is a really creative piece of work but I'm already skipping tracks on my ipod and don't feel it's the masterwork that Late Registration, one of my favorite rap albums of all time, was. Still, it should be a great battle at retail next week.
