Kon & Amir present Off Track Vol. III: Brooklyn - Rare Ghetto Disco, Funk & African Boogie

More great music from BBE:
"Off Track III finds the New York/Boston-based pair shining light on another diverse array of underexposed vinyl. The eclectic African disco and soul cuts Amir highlights on his disc are Americanized by style but inherently authentic in feel, demonstrating the very best of the region’s dance music from the period following Fela Kuti’s mid-70s creative peak. Some standouts: Tee Mac’s 1980’s insistently catchy ‘Living Everyday’; Effi Duke’s percussive masterpiece ‘The Time Is Come’; and Christy Essien’s glorious ‘You Can’t Change A Man’, which features famed bandleader Geraldo Pino’s Show Train outfit. Also in the mix are a couple of cuts from unsung Nigerian star Dizzy K. Falola aimed at sophisticated dancefloors.
Kon’s disc opens with an extended edit of Donny McCullough’s ‘From The Heart’ from a pricey 1981 album. Rudolph Baker’s little known album track ‘Getting Next To You’ is a floor-filling anthem in the waiting. Edge of Daybreak were a prison band whose punchy title track from their rare Eyes Of Love album provides a solid argument for subsidizing more music programs behind bars. ‘Tin Top’ is another cut with a Kon edit, but Kenny Mann & Liquid Pleasure are the antithesis of mysterious indy-label group, the veterans performing to this day and maintaining a comprehensive website loaded with videos and resumes."

TOMORROW in Miami: Raw Fusion vs. I Love Vinyl at WMC

Click for a full-size version of the poster
"This year the Raw Fusion crew is teaming up with the much hyped I Love Vinyl party from NYC on a night where you'll be able to get down to the most diverse sounds of soul ever. Of all the memorable sweaty Raw Fusion parties we've had at WMC we think this year's will be the most exciting session yet!
Upstairs Rich Medina, Rainer Trüby, Simbad, Eddy Ramich and Raw Fusion's very own Mad Mats will treat you to everything from deep'n'techy house, sweet'n'soulful r&b, dark dubstep/UK funky, gritty hip-hop, funk 45s, disco edits, skankin' reggae and soulful house/broken jams. Downstairs it's all about keeping it real deal, for the real deal feel, with Ge-Ology, Kon & Amir, Scribe, OP! and Jon Oliver spinning 100% vinyl jams (no laptops allowed, ed note: er what?? Who's covering those extra freight charges??) all night long. If we know theses guys, you'll be served both big classics and those obscure headspinners.
Whatever tickles your musical spine...right down to the soles of your feet...we got it!"

TONIGHT: A Benefit for KON at Santos Party House, NYC
After last night's presidential address, I HAD to post this:

Featured DJ's include Spinna, Rick Medina, Kon's partner, Amir, Cosmo Baker, DJ Scratch and Eli Escobar.
Here's a message from DJ Cosmo Baker about this benefit:
"Our good friend Kon (from Kon & Amir) has been sick and in the hospital for the past several weeks. Kon is an amazing guy with an incredible connection to music, being a world renowned crate digger as well as one of the best DJs in the country. But as you could probably guess, most DJs are independent contractors who do not have access to affordable health insurance. If you're lucky, you end up paying an arm and a leg for proper coverage, but for the most part you just don't have it. I learned the hard way 10 years ago when I was in a car accident and had to spend several months in the hospital. I didn't have coverage at the time, and my bills were several hundred thousands dollars. I was out of work, could not spin for a long time, so I had no benefits or coverage to take care of me. Thankfully through my dear friends and the community of Philadelphia, a benefit was thrown that raised enough money for me to get back on my feet. Hopefully we can do the same for our friend Kon here..."
