New music: T.Shirt - Angeldust (Freestyle) w/ Sean P

New music from rapper, T.Shirt:

"I possibly sat on releasing this for longer than I've ever sat on releasing anything. I just don't want no problem with Sean Price, simple as that. But I had something to say. I hated that "kill your mother" thing at the end of his verse. I just did. I like the n-gga but I didn't like that shit. I go a little more in depth on my blog about it where you can find lyrics to my verse and a funny new pic taken over the weekend."

Video: Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer

"This is pretty much exactly what most new indie and studio movies look like to me. Not just the Oscar-hopefuls and the Sundance selections. And not just the trailers, but the entire movies themselves (which are usually laid out, beat by beat, in the trailers). This one's funnier, though, because it doesn't pretend to be anything more than a familiar schematic diagram. Which is exactly what these comfy, risk-averse movies seem to be aiming for."

In a similar vein and in case you missed it, check out "24 Frames" by T.Shirt & Darvin Silva, a song composed entirely of film titles from their recently-released Tan-Face Children EP presented in conjunction with me and my fellow Connoisseurs of Culture, Stone and Benhameen. The Connoisseurs of Culture present T.Shirt & Darvin Silva - Tan-Face Children EP

Photobucket

&lt;a href="http://tshirt.bandcamp.com/album/tan-face-children-ep"&gt;Pioneers! O Pioneers! by T.Shirt&lt;/a&gt;

Of course I posted this before but it's #MusicMonday on twitter and part of The Connoisseurs of Culture's mission is to really promote projects we present. We don't just ride with projects one time so that, after all the hard work an artists puts in on a full-length project, it disappears off the front page of our respective blogs only to be forgotten in the bottomless pits of bullsh-it that is music on the internet.

Shirt astutely took my advice and uploaded his excellent Tan-Face Children EP (and now all his previous mixtapes) onto Bandcamp, something I recommend ALL artists too, which makes it more pertinent for me to repost it and even easier for you to now check it out too.

The first time I had posted it, I hadn't even checked it out properly but since then I have and its f-cking excellent! If you dig Cudi, Mickey Factz, Wale or even BP3-era Jay-Z (listen to the second-to-last track, "Allure" to see why I say that), you might dig this. I've seen some comments online comparing EP producer, Darvin Silva's beats to acclaimed underground producer, Flying Lotus but I'm not that up on his stuff so I won't make the same claim but if that's your bag, there you go!

Anyway, let me know what you think. Stone, Benhameen and I will be bringing you more 'Connoisseurs of Culture presents' projects over the coming year. Artists of all stripes (i.e. musicians, producers, directors, painters, graphic designers etc.), if you're doing some fresh, new sh-t that you fell people are sleeping on, holla at us if you wanna talk about making your next project a Connoisseurs of Culture project.

The Connoisseurs of Culture present T.Shirt & Darvin Silva - Tan-Face Children EP

Photobucket

So here it is, the Tan-Face Children EP by T.Shirt & Darvin Silva, presented by The Connoisseurs of Culture. I want to get into what it is but I just got the full EP myself so haven't even had a chance to listen to it properly so let me just have T.Shirt break it down for you directly:

"There's nothing better than making something with your friends. Sometimes, I just gotta forget about the outside world listening in and remember who I really made this for first and foremost. When I've rapped for myself in the past I never got the kind of response I wanted.. it's only when I rap for us.. when I take how I feel, what Darvin goes through, Dred, how Ronin's felt, my brothers.. I'm just trying to tell our story.. and I'm just trying to get it right.. inspire us. I think J Cole said it best, "my story ain't the only one I'm trying to tell" - that shit just rang so true to me. We are the tan-face children. We are the pioneers. Maybe you have to know all of us to understand.. maybe it gives you a familiar feeling."

Tracklisting:
01. Pioneers! O Pioneers!
02. (Written Somewhere In Miami)
03. Monday Massacre
04. 24 Frames (Movie Night)
05. Recommendation
06. Starry-Eyed
07. Allure (Must Have Been Love)
08. Outro Music

New music: The Connoisseurs of Culture present T.Shirt & Darvin Silva - 24 Frames

Photobucket

Friday night is movie opening night so there's not more fitting a time to launch the second leak from T.Shirt & Darvin Silva's Tan-Face Children EP dropping next Tuesday (March 9) in conjunction with the Connoisseurs of Culture. I told you before the COC is only trying to f-ck with cats who are trying to do somehting new, fresh or different creatively, be it in music, video, art or otherwise. Check Shirt on how "24 Frames" came about:

"I'm not sure how I came up with the idea but my whole thing was man, 'Has this ever been done?' I asked friends and people on Twitter their favorite films, took some of my own and just went to work. At first it seemed like it was gonna be this huge task but once I got into it, it was just fun (haha). I'm most proud of how the story is still my own and still tells some of my real experiences. Even down to my man Dred from Brazil who runs Hot Mot Films. I used his film debut I_NY at the end of the third verse. We're going all the way with this one. Expect a gang of cool promotion."

And check out the lyrics (complete with hyperlinks to all the films' respective imdb sites) to "24 Frames":

Verse One

Born On The Fourth of July, with Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Lost In Translation, I was Almost Famous till The Invention Of Lying. Little Miss Sunshine had a Paper Heart. We had a Brief Encounter in Jurassic Park, but I'm a Raging Bull, we A World Apart. I'm creeping down Ms. Annie Hall, Sexy Beast, Alpha Dog. The Unfaithful, Sex, Lies And Videotape, yeah boy, you can have it all but There Will Be Blood. She a Psycho like American History X. But, before we can be The Departed One Flew Over The Cukkoo's Nest. Oh ! The Dark Knight, she threw me Into The Wild Manhattan. But before it's the Night Of The Living Dead, I'll head down to Brazil with Judge Dredd. Yeah, Public Enemies, I'm Ghost Dog, Catch Me If You Can. She screaming Liar, Liar I turn into the Man On Fire. It's a Dog Town, Do The Right Thing or Forever be Unforgiven, shit, how many A Beautiful Mind turn ugly for a Pretty Woman? Big Daddy turns to Rocky, I'm Pollock in this Fight Club but just like in the movie Up, it ain't Love Actually, it's actually Love.

Verse Two

Strangers On A Train, then it Crash. The Devil Wears Prada bags The Color Purple, and Clockwork Orange. I'm just trying to see that Snatch and I'm gonna hit that Belly Bad Boy, like an Alien, Girl, Interrupted, then Blade Runner on that bitch, call that Poetic Justice! In my School Daze on the Mean Streets damn right I can tell you A Bronx Tale. Sometimes we were Boondock Saints, some nights we had Time To Kill. Some nights it was Coffee and Cigarettes in Chinatown On The Waterfront, 500 Days Of Summer, Bonny And Clyde, City Lights.
But this was no Casablanca baby ! There was no Singin' In The Rain, no Mystic River, none of that. It was just The Kid, and The Usual Suspects.12 Monkeys trying to be Big Fish!

Verse Three

Once Upon A Time In America, Goodfellas in Modern Times set out to be The Incredibles, a Star Trek for A Wonderful Life. My Bourne Ultimatum, either a Taxi Driver or Paths Of Glory. The Million Dollar Baby willing to Die Hard for a Toy Story. The Big Lebowski doing Blow like Scarface is Pulp Fiction. If I become The Great Dictator send me some Shawshank Redemption. Stand By Me Old Boy! It's Sin City in Central Station. Hip-Hop's No Country For Old Men, it's Grapes Of Wrath we facing. So we Changeling with a Sixth Sense, that's L.A. Confidential. We Children Of Men, let's Hope the 25th Hour ain't Memento. Some Like It Hot, District 9 with a Touch Of Evil. Fuck that! U Turn 12 Angry Men to a bunch of Funny People. I tried Finding Nemo standing on The Bridge On The River Kwai. That's metaphor for how I think I lost my Princess Bride. The Lady Vanishes into a Vanilla Sky of I_NY. A Brief Encounter but still, The Best Years Of Our Lives.

Well I prepped you about this dropping earlier but here's the first leak track from rapper, T.Shirt's collab project with producer, Darvin Silva, the Tan-Face Children EP entitled, "Monday Massacre":

T.Shirt & Darvin Silva - "Monday Massacre" [usershare mp3 links: stream | download]

Here's T.shirt's take on the track:

"In a first-ever collaboration with The Connoisseurs Of Culture (a progressive media collective comprised of The Couch Sessions, Different Kitchen and Pleasedontstare.com) T.Shirt & Darvin Silva come together to bring you their debut EP, Tan-Face Children.

Think interesting, and colorful T.Shirt verses over underground, worldly beats hand-picked and mixed by retro/electro king, Darvin Silva. We kick things off with "Monday Massacre", a frighteningly strong track, produced by Mr. Oizo, which puts you right in the pocket of what these guys are thinking musically. T.Shirt takes you down to what sounds like an illegal dogfight in a London basement. Yeah, that's what the f-ck these guys are on right now. Tan-Face Children drops March 9th world-wide."

Yeah, THAT's how we're gonna be doing it under the COC banner: riding with cats who are trying to do stuff that's new, creative and interesting, not only in just music but video, art, photography, literature, film, comics. Whatever! If you've ever f-cked me here at The Kitchen, Stone over at The Couch Sessions or Benhameen and his crew at PleaseDontStare.com and dug the aesthetic we've been cultivating on our sites, HOLLA AT US!!! We need to chop it up on some thangs.

Click HERE to read the full details on the Tan-Face Children EP at the brand new Connoisseurs of Culture tumblr site. Digital-only copies of the complete Tan-Face Children EP will be available free of charge March 9, through www.illrapper.com and www.darvinsilva.com presented by The Connoisseurs of Culture.

The Connoisseurs of Culture present T.Shirt & Darvin Silva - Tan-Face Children EP

Photobucket
Click the image above to see the full-size art.

OK, this is something new that The Kitchen has been working on for the past couple of months. Check the science...

"The Connoisseurs of Culture is a media collective comprised of the critcially-acclaimed and popular music & lifestyle websites, The Couch Sessions, Different Kitchen and Please Don't Stare.

The goal of the COC is to brand & present the work of musicians, producers, DJ's, video & film directors, visual artists and other creative types whose art we believe in and want to support on a deeper level than just basic posts on our respective sites.

A 'Connoisseurs of Culture Presents' project will be rolled out as a fully 'Branded' project with a comprehensive, integrated launch campaign leveraging all key social media platforms and the combined might of the collective social networks and readership of the COC network."

First up to bat is New York-based, up-and-coming rapper, T.shirt. Some of you may already be familiar with him from his "Dear Sade," "I Won't Go (Freestyle)" and "The Paul Cantor (Freestyle)" tracks but if you've been sleeping on him, you shouldn't be after he drops his Tan-Face Children EP. Check these snips from the official Press Release on the project:

"Over the last two months Retro Electro DJ/Producer Darvin Silva, and New York City rapper T.Shirt have been working on their full and realized debut EP together, Tan-Face Children. The name derives from the opening line of the famous Walt Whitman poem “Pioneers! O Pioneers!” where the poet beckons the burning youth “Come my tan-face children”. He’s speaking of the Western world, the youth of a generation working in the sun for long hours thus becoming, “tan-faced”. It’s a poetic and just way to describe the hard-working famous kids from Queens.

The chemistry in the music is electrifying. Darvin’s penchant for finding the “dirty, rap shit” in say, a mid-tempo french house song is as strong as can be. It is said that where T.Shirt thrives is where he’s allowed to be different, finding new flows, and concepts. That’s exactly the type of platform working with a talent like Darvin Silva brings. Where else can you find a gifted and gritty New York rapper spitting verses on one of the hardest beats you ever heard, by France’s own Mr. Oizo."

Click HERE to read the full Press Release on the
Tan-Face Children EP at the brand new The Connoisseurs of Culture tumblr site.

Tonight at midnight
will see the leak of the first track from the project, "Monday Massacre" so check back to be the first to cop it!
Digital-only copies of the FULL Tan-Face Children will be available free of charge March 9, through www.illrapper.com and www.darvinsilva.com presented by The Connoisseurs of Culture.

And look out after that more cool projects presented by the me, Stone and Benhameen under the COC banner.
