Isaac Hayes: 1942-2008
One of my all-time favorite albums is Isaac Hayes: Live at the Sahara Tahoe which my Dad played in the house many a Sunday when I was a kid growing up. This was the record which introduced to me to Hayes' music long before there was such a thing as hip hop to revitalize his work by introducing it to a new generation. One of the coolest memories I have was meeting the man himself and asking him to sign a CD copy of that album to give my Dad as a Christmas gift a few years back. I'm also happy I got off my ass and went to see him perform live at BB King's for the first time a few months back. Black Moses, R.I.P. - you will be missed....

Rosenberg does Rock the Bells...
Hilarious! Blogger underground hip hop radio fave du jour Pete Rosenberg braves Rock the Bells 2007 - the 'whitest concert in rap history.'
More on RTB from the hip hop blogosphere:
Oh Word
Nah Right
Flying the Sky
And shout to Corey Smyth who me and G.G. saw at the Soulive show at Canal Room last night. How were they? Let's just say I left early and G.G. said, "I'd rather have kept hearing Corey's stories about working on the 'Dave Chapelle show.'" Ouch!

The Return of Soulsville, USA!
This probably fits better on my other site but, since I update it so infrequently and this is culurally MAJOR news, I'm posting it here instead. The legendary Stax records, unquestionably one of the greatest record labels of all time, is back to celebrate its 50th anniversary:
Video streams: windows | real
Semi-Related: Amy Winehouse "Love is a Losing Game" - along with the return of Stax, if this song doesn't evoke a 60's world of sleek E-type Jags, all-nighters in Soho basement clubs and Gitane cigarettes for you I don't know what to say. An amazing song from her about to be released Back to Black, an overhyped album that actually deserves its hype.
