Throwback Music: The Wild Bunch - Look of Love
I just tweeted this but since I think I'm about to post a bunch of UK hip hop stuff in one of my regular raids of DJ Semtex's site, I figured I'd do a post on it too...
So for those not knowing, Wild Bunch is the proto-hip hop/soul sound crew from Bristol in the UK that later splintered into Soul II Soul and Massive Attack.
On the low you can trace the influence of what they were doing, directly and indirectly, all the way from Ron G and Kid Capri mixtapes through to what Puff was doing with Mary J Blige at the beginning of her career singing over hip hop beats and old school breaks. Do the knowledge....

Massive Attack - Saturday Come Slow: a short film by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin
"Filmed inside Cambridge University's anechoic chamber (designed to create total silence) and featuring former Guantanamo Bay detainee, Ruhal Ahmed, this short by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin is a reflection on Ahmed's experiences whilst in detention (particularly how he was interrogated using high-volume music) and about the use of human sound on the body. "
Track featuring Damon Albarn of UK indie band, Blur from the excellent Heligoland album in stores and online NOW. Cop it on iTunes HERE.

New music: Massive Attack - Heligoland Full Album Stream
Also spotted on AOL Spinner:
Listen to Massive Attack's Heligoland album featuring Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval and more HERE.
Album sounds a LOT better than I was expecting. Watch the video for the frankly mediocre (but admittedly better-sounding within the context of the whole album) "Splitting the Atom" HERE.

New Massive Attack EP on October 6th
Yes!!!
I don't usually do these kind of press release-y posts but it's Massive Attack! Horace Andy, Martina Topley-Bird and TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe?? That alone is sounding epic. But a full album with cameos from Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Topley-Bird, Adebimpe and Guy Garvey is coming in February too?? Wow....

Throwback video: Massive Attack - "Unfinished Sympathy"
I can't believe the Blue Lines album is f-cking 18 years old!!! And as if you couldn't tell from some of my recent posts, yes I was heavy into the Bristol sound back in the day.....
Related (?):
I wonder if the (now, also throwback) video for The Verve's similarly-titled "Bittersweet Symphony" was inspired by the Massive clip above?

Soundclash: Wild Bunch Vs Soul II Soul - New Years Eve 1987
Download it here [direct mp3 link, right click and save as]. Listen to it at Test Pressing.
This is f-cking EPIC! For young uns' benefit, here's the background story: when the Wild Bunch broke up they became Soul II Soul (with Nellee Hooper joining Jazzie B's London crew and helping them produce "Back to Life" and "Keep On Movin'") and Massive Attack (formed by WB members Daddy G, 3D and maybe Milo too, though not sure about that last one).
Test Pressing has more crucial UK sounds. Check them out here.
