This is so sad. Teddy Pendergrass was one of the greats. Yung'uns don't even know but if you've seen this Eddie Murphy bit, you know what it is. Dude had the R&B game on SMASH in his prime back in the day! Vocally, he was like Barry White meets Luther (at least, to me). New school R&B cats: Usher, Trey Songz, Raheem DeVaughn, none of them can see him on charisma, voice or sheer number and quality of hit slow jams (although Jaheim might be the closest from a purely vocal point of view). No telling how his career would have been different if he hadn't met with that tragic car accident back in 1982. Not sure if its sadder, fitting or just weirdly coincidental that he passed on the same date that Donny Hathaway did 31 years ago.
I'd ask people to share their favorite Teddy P. songs (or sampled uses in hip hop) in the comments section, but I know how that's gonna go! :/ RIP, Teddy P....
