The Kitchen: always fresh!

So So Fresh: Mickey Factz (2nd from left) and his GFC crew

Further proof to me that the YBI movement out of Harlem is what's gonna "save" NYC hip hop. F-ck what ya heard: hip hop ain't dead! There are so many kids from Uptown you ain't even heard of yet doing some amazing things with hip hop right now like Mickey Factz. These tracks - from a mixtape where homeboy raps over N*E*R*D instrumentals called In Search of the N.E.R.D. - are just a teaser of what this dude is capable of. I can't wait to hear what he does over some original tracks.

Listen:

"Rockstar Posers" [MP3: YSI | Zshare stream/download] - Mickey may stay fresh himself but he goes in on all the new young fashionistas trying to be fresh 2 def out there on this track!

"Breakout" [MP3: YSI | Zshare stream/download] - dude even gets political. My kind of MC!

Props to my dude Kwasi from Laced magazine for putting me up on this cat.

Shout also to my dudes Dante Ross and OG Englishman in New York (now relocated to Hawaii), Jules who I caught up with at the Vans/DQM party a couple weeks back. If you don't know who Dante is, do your homework. And for those who think DJ AM, Cassidy, Diplo, Mark Ronson and other white boys spinning hip hop nowadays is something new, Jules was the truth killin' spots like 2i's and Don Hill's back in the day. He's part of the true history of 90's-era NYC hip hop that'll probably never get written but real heads know the deal....
