New music from LCD Soundsystem

I love this group. They consistently make great music and are one of the few acts deserving of the critcial & hipster love they get. This video is of a new song (actually apparently a reinterpretation of a 1979 Peter Gordon & Love Of Life Orchestra track recorded for release with a retrospective of Gordon’s work) they debuted at the Yves Saint Laurent Winter Fashion Show.

DFA Records/ XL Recordings present: Friendly Fires vs. Holy Ghost - On Board!

Photobucket

OnBoard by Girlie Action

"It started off as a drunken conversation at Corsica’s Calvi Rocks festival in July 2009. Friendly Fires had just played live, Holy Ghost had just finished DJing, and in the post-gig haze the decision was made by each band to cover one of the other’s songs.

Eight months later and here are the quite brilliant results. Friendly Fires were the first to honour the agreement, finishing 2009 in the studio with a superb take on the DFA duo’s ‘Hold On’ classic. Meanwhile, Holy Ghost’s cover of ‘On Board’ took a little longer – sessions vanished, vocal tracks mysteriously vanished, hard drives were fractured and somewhere in the middle of it, the duo lost their close friend Jerry Fuchs, whose awe-inspiring drumming is at the core of this version of ‘On Board’. The results are equally special
."

I dig this! DFA still got it!

DFA Records x FACT magazine mix

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From June '08 by J&J (Justin Miller & Jacques Renault). Yeah it's a year old but it's FIYA and I missed it in the Gmail inbox. Check it out if you f-cks with no-wave, alterna-disco type sounds or just dig good music that flies under the radar of commercial mainstream music channels:

These guys remind of early (way pre-"Don't You Want Me") Human League. The above track is "No Time." Check 'em doing "One Day" here.

New album: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And staying off the hip hop path for one more post....

It's been a good 2-3 years since DFA were the hottest, most-buzzing thing in the music industry and producing team of James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy were being described as "indie rock's Neptunes." While many of the hipster types who championed (blogged about) them and the amazing series of 12" singles they released on their DFA label have moved on to talking about Justice and who knows what else, Murphy just dropped a second album of neu-no wave and disco-punk by his band side project LCD Soundsystem and you know what? It's pretty f-cking good, man. Check out the current single “North American Scum” from the album:
