'Something for the Ladies!'

"If you care about the ladies of Hip Hop, then you already know about the all female MC lineup goin down this Tuesday 9pm at Public Assembly in Williamsburg. Definitely Brooklyn’s hot spot to see and be seen. Come show your support for the women who pour their souls into Hip Hop. As we all know in today’s competitive music industry, not too often are women given a chance to demonstrate their Hip Hop skills, let alone a showcase with an ALL FEMALE MC lineup. Contrary to that, Brooklyn Bodega does not fall under this stereotype, but rather, is providing a platform this Tuesday for women who have a deep obsession for Hip Hop. Share your passion for the art of rhyming with these up and coming talented female MC’s. Your attendance in numbers will prove to the Hip Hop community that women have a strong presence within the Hip Hop realm. Let us empower these female MC’s by giving them our support . Don’t sleep on this one…"

and YUME Member Michael Peterson:

Following the success of the Show and Prove showcase/competition, I noticed the lack of a female presence on the stage, but recognized their strong presence in the crowd. It hit me that ‘Show And Prove’ is an obvious platform to show that Hip Hop is not gender struck. Without MC’s like Rage, Bahamadia, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rah Digga and so many more, Hip-Hop would not be what it is today. YUME and Brooklyn Bodega feel responsible to provide a launching point for emerging female MCs and artists who are so often overlooked.

The finalists for the October Show and Prove ‘Something for the Ladies’ showcase are: Zarinah, Kallae All Day, G.N.U., and Gypsy Flesh and DJ Brina Payne on the turntables.
