Why I want to be a DJ....
My man Carlos Watson (from CNBC's The Edge With Carlos Watson) has just begun writing a weekly column offering a fresh take on the world of politics (as he puts it) to appear every Wednesday on cnn.com.
"How Blogs Are Ruining My Life" by Whitney Pastorek. How real is a lot of what she talks about in that article? (Village Voice)
For Andrew M. and all my other Canadain readers: transplanted New York writer Sarah Lazarovic looks at Canada's hot new magazines. (Mediabistro.com)
This looks like an incredible exhibition: Latin American and Caribbean Art from the Collection of the Museum of Modern Art. (El Museo)
More on the Illmatic reissue: Nas Looks Back To Illmatic With Reissue, DVD (Billboard). Anyone else thinks it's bad call on Sony/Columbia's part to not include the Large Pro remix of "It Ain't Hard to Tell" and Q-tip's remix of "The World is Yours"? (The Groove Merchantz "One L" remix of "One Love" feat. Sadat X, Def Jeff & Meech Wells's "Arsenal" remix of "Life's A Bitch" and the LG Experience's remix of "One Love" ain't so bad either and may as well be included in the name of being as comprehesive as possible for a premium-package reissue of a classic and important album like this, right?) (mp3 links courtesy: Sandbox | hiphopsite.com)
Read excepts from Cheo Hodari Coker's book on Biggie in the March issue of Vibe magazine.
Why I'm trying to be a DJ: Shannyn Sossamon loves boys who scratch. (spotted on the Pop Life comments via Marc "Hella Hip Hop" Marcello)
So Shannon's convinced you that you need a turntable but you don't really want to be a DJ: the Denon DP-500M
Or you want to scratch but you're not gonna go out and buy a room full of wax when you've been buying CD's for the past decade or so: the Numark CDX.
But Shannon's words are too alluring so you wanna do it right and get the wax including all the old school school ish: Freddy Fresh presents the Rap Records, a book with info on every single Hip-Hop 12" created between 1979 and 1988 (or so Fresh claims). (NB: this book sold out in 2 days when they brought it in at Turntable Lab so if you see it somewhere, don't think: just cop it.)

Friends,Do good and suport this organization.
As you may know I have been heavily involved in a program called East Harlem Tutorial Program. Over the past year I have been serving double duty as a Board of Trustee member and as a co-chair to a newly formed Junior Board (I guess I should be happy that I can still be associated with something with the word "Junior" in it). The Junior Board of EHTP is hosting an event on March 5th and it should be a really good time. I hope you can make it. Details are below and in the attached invite. Give me a call if you have any questions.
Regards,
-- K. Don Cornwell, Co-Chair

East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) is an award winning after school program that is making a difference in the lives of hundreds of young people and families in East Harlem. Founded in 1958, EHTP began in the East Harlem apartment of Helen Webber, where she read books to neighborhood children after school. As news of this informal reading group spread, parents and volunteers alike flocked to Helen’s door.
More than 45 years later, EHTP continues to thrive by providing 16 different programs and services including one-to-one tutoring, youth development, college and career counseling, media/technology education, arts-in-education and a summer day camp. The mission of EHTP is to enhance the knowledge, skills and interests of children and youth by fostering their love of learning. EHTP is also highly recognized on the national level as a model in the field of after school education.
